...This is an Archie kit so the only think I can guess is that my frame rails were just a little tighter than normal, tolerances being what the were back then.
An Archie kit SBC fits a fiero but it is a VERY tight fit. On things like this the installer needs to make decisions and sometimes compromises to make service easier. Cutting the frame/shock frame is easier and cheaper than going remote w-pump. It all depends on installer preferences. The only setup I see where nothing needs to be cut (but maybe hammered) is a carbed SBC with a remote water pump.

Yes, it is a very tight fit and you will not have room to change the belt without any cutting/denting.
The depth of the Harmonic balancer into the engine and the tranny placement to the DS are the two main areas where you could lose some much needed space. The balancer needs to be as tight to the timing cover as possibIe. I prefer to install the engine/tranny into the car with the struts installed, but w/o springs. Then rotate the wheel at full extension and full compression. If it will not spin freely at both, you could be in for issues. If it spins freely, move it to the DS some more. You want to be as close to the DS, but not bind the CV joints.
Here is a waterpump option that didn't require any cutting or denting of the fiero frame or inner wheel well to fit. It mounts above the frame rail and is far enough forward to clear the wheel well.
To change the belt, the pump has to come off and the cradle must be rocked back. Not a big deal for me since I seem to have the engine/tranny out atleast 1 time a year for upgrades and a new waterpump belt.

You can see here that I have a plate to level the carb Thanks for looking.
Where did you get the plate from to level your carb, and by how much did you change the angle ? Great thread by the way, I always enjoy these buildup stories Thanks Mike
