i am wanting to do a hood vent like the one archie sells, i am good at fiberglass so i don't need the scoop i can make it myself. i just need the messurements. any help would be helpfull
Thanks for the interest Here is some useful info when we built Yellowstone's hood. You will be able to reuse most of the parts of the cut hood. These were the measurements:

while that may be the mathmatical conversion centimeters to inches, it is not quite there yet missing the other thing that makes inches such a stupid system - the Fractions....
anyways, thanks - my hood is now in my basement waiting to get cut up

Please excuse my ignorance - and I am not trying to start trouble here, but what is this vent for? I mean, does the vent have any physical purpose or is it simply cosmetic? Does is actually aid in helping the radiator get more 'cool' air, or is it all for looks? I guess I am just confused......it looks cool and all, but it seems like a lot of work for something that might not add any physical advantages to the car's cooling or performance.
Just curious....
:-)

The hood vents do two things. First, they aid in cooling the of the radiator. Normally in say stop and go traffic, the space above the radiator heats up because there is very little if any flow. Then if the fan turns on, There is hot air blowing around and slowly being pushed around the trunk section and finally out from under the hood. With the hood vent, Heat rises out of the vent preventing it from building up. You will notice that the radiator fan will come on less often and the engine temp will remain stable (and lower) when driving regardless how hot it is outside. Running cooler keeps the performance level the same and increases gas mileage.
Secondly, When driving at high speeds, Depending on body style and headlight cover spring strength, The headlight covers can "pop" up. This is because the air pressure builds under the nose (air traveling thru the radiator) and the front of the car is lifted. When the pressure reaches an unspecified point it forces the headlight cover to push up slightly. They then catch the wind and "pop" all the way up. Adding the hood vent allows the air to not build up pressure as much at high speeds. This stops (or increases the speed) at which the headlight covers will "pop" up. Also this allows for better traction and control at normal highways speeds as well by reducing front end lift.
So bottom line is the car will handle better at highway speeds and will run cooler on those hot summer days.

^^^^ What Oreif said. The front noticably feels a bit more sticky at higher speeds and my headlight doors havent popped up since the mod. Its a bit of a nostalgic loss....lol
Pyrthian: let me know if I need to correct the "inch" measurements...I think I did some basic conversion that time
its off course possible to build a bigger/deeper vent but then you will have to cut the front trunk and possibly loose sparetire and sunroof storage..

That makes perfect sense. I've had the headlight covers pop up on me while flying down a rural road in the middle of New Mexico. Scared the crap out of me.
