For all the people not going to the picnic, we are having a get together in Helen, Ga. for lunch. We will meet there at 12:00 noon in Helen. We are going to pick-up the Athens, Tn. people at Big Lots at 8:45 a.m., then the Etowah bunch at 9:00, and the people from Benton around 9:30. We'll meet the Ga. group in Helen. It will be at the same place as the last time. Hope to see you there.
I think it's on the north end of town on the left before you cross the bridge. I don't remember the name of the resturant, but I'm trying to get it. I'll post it just as soon as I get it.
Hijack: Hey, Proff, just got a note from David. Says you guys will be leaving Birmingham on Friday the 23rd to head for RFTH 10. We'll have to see if we can coordinate the time you come by my house. I have to be there early to go out and put up markers on the route. :End Hijack:
Now, as for Helen, it's a lively little place. Hopefully it won't be too crowded when we get there. If we can't get in, oh well, there's a bunch of curves in them hills.
Melanie and I will be there. Mike Barr said he and his wife are coming. Maybe Raydar and Tammy and Kevin and his wife or one of the kids. Will contact Craig King with the black 88 GT and Ron Rizzi with the 84 SE who were turned away from the American Pie with their children. ScottD isn't sure, yet.
I might be there. Helen is a fun little town. My wife's family had a family reunion there in 2003. We had a great time! Helen will probably be packed on Labor Day weekend. If the weather is too hot, you can always jump in the Chattahoochee and cool off! http://www.coolrivertubing.com
Anyone want to meet in Gainesville about 9 then Dawsonville about 10, then on to Helen? It will put us there a little early, but if it's busy, we'll need the time to find parking, etc.

I'm thinking to leave Gainesville about 9, drive over to Dawsonville to the McDonald's. Leave Dawsonville about 10. That should put us into Helen about 11. If anyone wants to arrive in Helen at 12, then we could go up through Dahlonega and twisty our way into the back side of Helen.

Well I hate to say this but I am not going to be able to go. Since We do have the RFTH10 at the end of the month. I have to save money for gas. Also My back tires are almost done so I think that it will be best for me to not go on the trip. Even thought I hate to say that but hey. You got to do what you got to do.
Rob, let us know if you plan another one. Gas in the SUV is going to be rediculous just for the drive to threeofclubs' meet in Gatlinburg, but it is a bit closer from where I'm located. Hopefully I'll have another Fiero road ready by the time you plan another one. Sounds like fun though.
Charlie , I'm just gonna shoot up 441 to Cornelia. Just lots closer for me than the round-a-bout thru Gainesville. I was just up in Helen to a car show 3 weekends ago. Always enjoy going there. Probably will be crowded , but then , it always is !! John , did you sell the little 87 Coupe you bought from me? You need to get one of those Fieros running !

I ended up selling it earlier this year. Had WAY too many... I am getting to the point where one or two will be more than enough. If I can build one vehicle to look as good as the Yellow T you have, I'll be happy. Right now, finding the right one to build up has been a dilemma.

I just finished watching the news this morning. They said a small tornado had touched down in helen and damaged a hotel, a gas station and downed trees. Hopefully it did not do too much damage.

So, now that the gas prices have skyrocketed out the roof, and people here are panicking about a shortage , who's still going? Not to mention the tornado damage.

Too bad you guys are doing it on the 3rd! I'll be arriving in GA on the 7th. I know all about the gas price thing! Gas is $2.99 a gallon out here already and I am going to be driving from Houston, TX to Dalton, and then back all the way across to CA. Maybe I better go get a loan for gas!
I am still planning on going. It depends I guess on how many drop out though. This will be my first Fiero gathering and a good test run before RFTH 10.

Hey Dale !! How's it going man?? !! Long time , no see. Well , our gas prices JUMPED today from $2.59 to $2.99 or higher !!! between 6:30 and 4:00 o'clock today. Some staions will probably run out soon. Not sure how that will work on your travel plans.Check out the Eastern Tenn thread also. https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/053726.html We may end up having to change our plans. I'm waiting to see what everyone decides.

News reports in Atlanta are that the panic buying going on is the result of a rumor that started around noon today that stations would be forced to close down until Labor Day. The Governor has stated that is not the case and will not happen. He has put a freeze on gasoline prices. They are frozen at the prices of 6PM, August 31. Many stations are still in the high $2 range. Some stations have been reported at $6. The Governor indicates those who cannot justify their prices based on wholesale prices will be prosecuted. He indicated that the largest portion of our petroleum comes in by seaport, not by pipeline. The only shortage for fuel is due to panic buying, not from any distribution problem. We should see the lines go away before this weekend. I'm all for continuing with the get together.
Mike Benson checked with the Helen Chamber of Commerce, today. They expect business to be back to normal by Thursday, except for those businesses that were damaged. He couldn't contact the restaurant we're going to, but will try again tomorrow. Aerial video I saw did not show any damage in the river area, which is where the restaurant is. It's on the opposite side from downtown and there was no damage in downtown Helen.
