The cat's out of the bag. I'm the guy who snagged the EHPS unit on ebay last week. I didn't want to blab about it in the event that it was a scam. I felt the auction was sincere but the old adage "if it seems too good to be true then it is" was ringing in the back of my head. So I thought better of announcing my little coup until I had goods in hand. it arrived today and I'm still starring at it in disbelief. It actualy does exist. And the manual is an absolute treat. It has schematics, cut-aways, diagnostics, tech drawings (one dated 9/17/85 interestingly enough). I'm savoring every page like a perfectly cooked Porterhouse steak!
1) Examine and document EVERY square millimeter of this gem.
2) Post pics for all to see, study, and enjoy
3) Completely clean the system and install it on a 1988 Fiero front suspension for display until the "right" fiero comes along to install it on, which will become a show/display car (no daily driver here).
4) copy-kit?.....maybe. Stay tuned.
Let me feel some love

I am so glad that it was someone on Pennocks that got it and not some Fiero recluse out in Montana... especially glad that someone like Todd got it and not the Punisher...

...not to mention how things went when you thought you got the window sticker from one of the actual pace cars...
Seriously, you got a great find! Congratulations and thanks for preserving some rare Fiero history!
Good job!

So Shaun was lying when he said he was the one who bought it. It figures, anything to try and piss off the PFF members. What a loser. Congrats on the purchase.

I would love to scans of the instructions . PLEASE
Like everyone says glad to see a fellow forum member get it .
I will. But give me time. I'm busy as hell at work lately.
I have what appears to be a photocopy of a "pre-publication" proof of the manual. It has the steno marks in the corners. It is dated February 1988 and is designed to be a "study guide" for training technicians on maintenance, installation, repair, and general problem diagnosis. It makes mention of an accompanying VIDEO!!! I have a stock number. I need to call a Pontiac tech buddy of mine and see if he can still order this video. I'll let you know.

Todd, You recently told me a book's value/rarity doesn't just depend on it's age but more on the demand for and interest in it..

Now THAT sir, is a rare book.
I would love to see you host the entire manual and engineering aspects on line somewhere for everyone's benefit, which I think would be a heck of an unselfish sacrifice but I fully understand if you choose to go another route and make some $$ off duplicates of the manual or complete duplicate units. The important thing is that the info be available in some form for the future, both as a tech item and for historical reference.
I dis agree a little with you stimpy about your 'doesn't affect me in the least' comment. It may not affect you personally, but view this in the same vein as the Fiero prototypes. Far better that this item end up in the hands of someone that will put it to use than to have it locked away in a personal collection of memorabila, and never see the light of day execpt on very rare occassions. I'm not saying The Punisher would do that, but there are collectors out there who would.
Kit kit kit kit kit kit kit!!

Congradulations ! This is a double surprise for me - (1) that Toddster got it and (2) that I owe the seller an apology (in my mind at least) 'cause I was thinking he was full of $h_t.
If it was me, I'd be talking to the Fiero Store about using their connections to make and sell these, with me getting a $$ cut of each one sold (but that's just me).
Super good luck Toddster !!!

Why, is Todd going to let you come over to his house to play with it? I personally don't care who got it, doesn't impact my life in the least.
If it doesn't impact your life at all, why do you care of someone else is glad Todd got it?
I'm glad Todd got it rather than Shaun. Why? Because Shaun is a douchebag and a jerk. I would rather just about anyone here get it than him.
I'm also glad that he's going to be preserving it and not just slapping it on a car that's going to be driven into the ground. Now, if a 2nd one comes along, put THAT one on the daily driver. Putting it on a show car is a great idea. Much better than just using it on your daily driver OR making a museum peice out of it.

Great to hear this thing really exists and that someone who not only appreciates it for what it is, but what it means to the community. Reverse engineering one would be great, although may cost quite a bit to manufacture. I personally would be interested in one. I look forward to the posting of copies of the information you have. I like to collect paraphanillia like that, even in copy form. Thanks for letting us know about a top notch score!

As the seller,I think a LOT of people owe me an apology! I may not be as knowledgeble about Fieros as some of you, and didn't know these existed. I was about to walk away from the 88 White 23k mile Fiero I had gone to purchase when the seller showed me this P.S. rack and pump and told me the story. I almost walked away from the Fiero, but seeing these parts included, I figured they would be worth something??? I was right, and unfortunately I should have not had a Buy It Now, but a quick buck was fine as I also sold the car already. This GM engineer owned a smoke riddled Fiero for 6+ years and never attempted to clean the car that he drove 50 miles during the 6 years. I was disgusted as I like NICE kept cars. This Fiero deal will be a memory and I can only hope it repeats itself. I will contact this seller to see if his friend has more of these PS units and will advise if so.
ALSO- Think some of you with the negativity should calm down. With all the fraud on ebay, there are some honest sellers!!!!!

Jeff, why are you so negative with responses to many Fiero and Fiero related goings on on here lately? Your once cute snippet posts have since turned into harsh or bitter comments. What is the problem? This is an exciting thing for the Fiero community and for a member like Toddster to be able to get his hands on it certainly is also a good thing for the Fiero community. Though he is not making any guarentee;s on what he plans to do with it I agree with others that I think it is better for him to have it then a few others we can all think of.

Exactly. All I know of Todd is what I see here on the forum, thats all I know of any of you here. From what I have seen Todd is willing to share what he has.
It doesn't affect my life in the least, I will probably never see it as I don't live anywhere near there, but I never said anything to warrant that response Stimpy.

I'm shaking, just looking at the pics!!! Excellent score! Is (was) there an rpo for power steering?
Yep, N41.
And everyone rest assured that I will post a PDF file of the training manual and multiple pics when I can find some spare time, perhaps in a week or two. I know, I know, it seems like an eternity but how would you like to have been in my seat waiting for this thing to arrive !?

I'm being negative? Who am I calling a "douchebag and a jerk"? I'm not saying anything against Todd in this, although I won't pretend to suddenly approve of the way that he deals with others. As far as Todd and Shaun are concerned, they are two sides of one coin. They are both (IMO) arrogant, abrasive, and abusive to anyone who disagrees with them. They may as well be the same person. To say that I am happier that it wound up in the hands of someone who will display it, well woopdie doo. Seeing a static display of a power steering kit would hold about 12 seconds of my attention at a boring show. There is no chance in hell that these units will be reverse-engineered and offered, the liability questions boggle the mind.
I say good for Todd that he is doing well in his life that he can afford to ball like that. That he can spend $1250 for a piece of trivia when there are people starving in this world is, um, impressive, I guess. I don't think it's any more,or less impressive then if anyone else would have bought it. Seriously, Todd could make a floor lamp out of it at this point, and it would not change my life.
Oh, and Carbon, if you think my response was rough, for God's sake, get a helmet. It gets much worse then that, and your friend Todd is one of the worst offenders.
Todd, Congrats on the rare purchase. Hopefully you will be able to help the rest of us down the road who are interested in having the EHPS (for all year Fieros). Best thing I like is that there is no load on the engine (other than electrical) when using it. How many of those units were actually installed on 88's? Wasn't it on like 8 or 9 cars at the end of the production year? There was a reference article to the unit in the Fiero Focus (from NIFE) a few years back.
Oh, and Carbon, if you think my response was rough, for God's sake, get a helmet. It gets much worse then that, and your friend Todd is one of the worst offenders.
Peace out.
What is your problem. I have seen conversations in the 'Off Topic' forum where everyone acts like an A-Hole but I have not experienced that with Todd in the Tech or General forums. I generally leave off topic reactions and responses from people in that forum and treat it as a seperate experience. There are a lot of people on Pennocks that act like jerks in off topic and are nothing but helpful in the other sections of the forum.
I don't need a helmet, I know where BS belongs and this is not it. I couldn't possibly care less what you think of Todd or anyone else, it has absolutely no effect on what I think of them. Maybe you need the helmet...
This is stupid to argue about... at least the damn thing went to someone who will share it... that was my point. By they way I just checked and both you and Todd have positives from me so there. That is based on my experiences with both of you. Not what everyone else says.

Well, at least he said he wasn't saying anything against me and "peace out" before and after the ***** slapping. By the way, how is your quest to feed the poor going for you Stimpy? And why are you paying $2.10 a gallon for your wastefully unnecessary souped-up 3.8 Supercharged road rocket (which cost you a LOT more than this thing cost me) when you could give it to some Ethiopian kid instead?
The reason you dislike me so much is that I DARE to point out your glaring hypocracy. Other than that small affront, I have ALWAYS been civil, even cordial, to you. I don't crap all over your threads. Think you can muster the energy to do the same?

I tell you... power steering and Fieros were obviously ment for each other because,.... every time there's a thread about it, it goes up in FLAMES!!!!!

First off, I pay $2.23. Got to have super unleaded. Secondly, my "road rocket" is my daily transportation. An 18 year old used car. Yep, I'm hemorraging cash. And no, it really didn't cost me a whole lot more then your piece of bric-a-brac. Thirdly, I don't think I'm really "crapping on your thread". Whether or not I like you or dislike you is completely irrelevant. I'm just curious on why someone is oh so much happier that you bought it then someone else. The one thing I can say is that I do believe that you will properly archive the manual. Again, at the end of the day that fact does no more for me then if someone were to wipe their ass with it. I just don't see the reason for the hype. And yes, starting a thread so people can "show you some love" because your wallet is fat is hype.

I have trouble understanding why someone who doesn't care about a subject feels the need to chime into the thread, announcing they don't care. Why not just stop reading, and hit the "back" button on the browser?

If we can take a break from the flame war for a second.....
This is a fantastic piece of Fiero memorabilia....whether you decide to install it or not, it's a fascinating footnote in the life and ultimate death of our beloved car.
Now....on to the subject of reverse engineering and reproducing that baby
OK, I've said my piece. Continue with the flame-a-thon.

What's the fun in that? It doesn't give you a chance to to tell people who do nothing but work hard, pay their taxes, and try to help others how much you don't care about them. Gotta rain on the parade and take 'em down a peg or two. How DARE we have a value system inconsistent with others. I mean people are starving and we are talking about ...you know...non-starving people related things. What nerve!
We need to change the name of this forum to the Pennock's Starving People Forum (PSPF) and discuss NOTHING except starving people and how we are not doing enough to feed them. The TECH section should be changed to the "Logistics of Feeding Starving People" Section. And the General Fiero Chat Section should be changed to the "How Do We feel about Starving People" Section. The Mall can be changed to a "Food for sale for Starving People" Section. T/OT can be changed to the "You're a total ******* if you're here because you're not thinking about Starving People" Section. And the Garbage Can can be the "One Man's Garbage is a Starving Person's Dinner" Section.
Well, at least I fed a starving person today...my 2 month old daughter was very grateful.

Looking at the pics I can make out the fluid reservoir, the pump section, and the electric motor, but what goes in the big heat-sink housing? Does this system use a variable motor drive to vary the assist?
About the motor, GM's not in the habit of designing motors from scratch if they can use something off the shelf, is the motor used elsewhere?
