Almost missed it, cause it didn't look like a fiero at first. It was sitting out front in a section of cars that looked like they wanted to sell the whole car rather than part them out. The yard was closed so I couldn't ask questions. It's also 90 miles from where I live, but I may call to see if they will part it out.

Don't tell them what it is, complain about how silly those small rear wheels look like and that snorkel*ditch it*thingy isn't even painted...get it for $500
Maybe the engine might be surprising too? Have you seen it?
what is so special about the wide-body fieros? easier to work on? rare?
The widebody kit was original produced by DGP for GM's racing program. They later adapted them to fit the production cars, and the molds were transferred (sold?) to IRM. IRM closed down a few years ago, and just recently sold all their molds to Fierowarehouse, who will be producing them again.
So this is as close to a "Race" body as you can get without actually doing a full race setup (like RRunner )... and yes, they're pretty rare!

WOW! That's a great find! Hope you get it for a good price. As the others have said, don't look too eager. ask to look all around, inside the engine compartment, and under the car.
The trim looks different..maybe it's just painted...?
That car looks SOOO Sweet! (once you remove the snorkel-thingie)
Good luck!

Kill the snorkel-thingie ! If you hate thingies too, Then watch out for the blue dingy thing mounted under the passenger side dash. It does the dingdong thingie when you do a wrong thingie! Kill that one too and you'll have a fine Fiero.

Doesn't that "snorkel" look like a chopped up indy scoop? The hole looks like it should be the bottom of an indy scoop, and you can see a corner at the front of the snorkel that would be where the top of the indy scoop is.
Perhaps I'm thinking to hard. I'd hate to know that somebody hacked up an indy scoop to make THAT vent thing.

...
I was thinking the same thing. If it was, that's such a waste.
Find out what the story is, lot of folks like the look. Chances are even if the mechanicals are toast, you could sell the entire car and not have to worry about parting it out. Every now and then folks ask if anyone is selling their IRM cars. Definetly a keeper. I agree about the over the roof snorkel, looks like someone watched Jaws a tad too many times.

Rest easy, folks.. That is not a chopped up Indy scoop. Whatever it is, it is rounded all the way around. An Indy scoop is flat on one side, and the opening is not that wide anyway...
I have no idea what they were thinking though!

regarding the snorkel, I didn't mean it looked like the TOP of the indy, it looks like the "exhaust port" of the snorkel is the BOTTOM of the Indy one...(where it would attach to the decklid)

The rear wheels are set really far in and I thought it looked bad. I am thinking that the rims were taken off and kept/sold by the owner/junk yard. The plates expired in 2001!!!
It really looks like the car has sat for that long too. There were about 10 cars in the same area and they all had price tags on the window (chalk/soap stuff). I think that they were trying to sell the cars whole as fixers or something like that. The cars were mostly complete. The writing on the windshield on the fiero had faded or worn off.
It looks like nothing is missing as far as body panels, and no cracking either. I thought it strange that it had NO cut outs on either side of the wide end clip for air flow. There was indentations where you would think there should be a cut out, but it was not open to air flow. I was really only planning on fetching the wing..... I will call in the am an get more details. Maybee someone put a v-8 in it???
I really have no interest in this, but I will get as much info as I can so if anyone else wants it.
I will post my findings.

I also remeber that the front fenders were also wide. The black notched trim on all four wide panels did not really match the stock notched trim on facia's. The trim on the fiberglass parts was partially painted. The car looked like it used a stock 85gt front facia. The insides were actually not to bad either. Very little warping and steering wheel looked good to.
I only spent a couple of minutes looking at this so I don't remeber much more.

Duh! Yeah, that makes sense... Now I am hoping it was not an Indy scoop!
RossT, go ahead and go pick it up and bring it on to Bakersfield. I'll make room for it somewhere!

RossT - Excellent find! I've been drooling over the thoughts of a widebody notchie since I assisted Doug in loading the IRM molds.
The trim pieces are actually molded in the fiberglass which is probably why they were painted body color. Too much of a pain to paint them black I guess. Have seen a couple & they were all painted body color.
Make yourself some money & save a great car. Buy the whole thing & then sell it to "us who know". With this car, the body is what's good - would be nice to find an IRM turbo in there - but a complete assembled widebody notchie already has several of us salivating over it from the sounds of the posts. Grab the whole thing for as cheap as you can (offer 'em $200 & maybe work up --very slowly-- to as much as $1k. you should be able to make some $$ on that)... I have to drive 90 min to find any Fiero parts around here... Now, where is this beaut????
So with this kit you could add wider tires to the rear right?
Did they make this kit for the fastback?
There are 3 wide body IMSA kits. One was for the base coupe with the "bumper pad" front end. One was as you see in the pics (called Aero-coupe), and the last one was fastback body style (GT). There is a place in Canada that sells the base coupe body. Fiero Warehouse has the original DGP/IRM molds for all 3 styles. You can check out their website at: www.fierowarehouse.com
Aside from the "fin scoop" on the back, That is a great find. Like everyone says, the body kit alone is worth alot of money.

Jeff, I am calling on it first thing in the morning to get the details. The place was closed when I was there last Saturday. At this point I have no interest in the car. I originally was thinking of getting the wing and selling it. Hopefully the owner will just want the car gone for a small price!!
