hey thanks Neal, you're a great guy. I still have some cleaning up to do but after 3 years my pics are finally on PFF !

The interior has custom upholstery and a removable Grant Signature series steering wheel. Autometer guages and a Monstor tach (not shown) custom center console, custom dashboard and 4 point roll bar. i made the Targa kit myself and i still need to finish some details around the shifter. i haven't decided on a boot for it yet. CD player with remote, Kenwood hi's angled toward the drive and passenger where the a/c vents used to be and a 10 inch sub replaces the glove box over the computer. also there are tweeters under the A pillars pointing towards passenger and driver. amps mounted under the hood (sandsa spare tire). ACC carpet covers it all up on the floor.

The engine is a mid-80's Corvette 4 bolt main with double-hump heads ported and polished to specs along with a mild cam, Accel distributer, CSI waterpump, totally rebuilt block, pistons and crank, high-rise dual plane intake with an Edelbrock 650 carb. blueprinted, balanced and dyno'd at 410 HP at the crank bolted on with an Archie kit. Auto tranny with a shift kit, and a line of spares to go along with it. Flowmaster 80 series exhaust keeps the headaches away while cruising.

i'm still in the test and tune stage of the swap, but after the motor mount issues i ordered some custom axles from Archie that hopefully will be in Tuesday.

everything is SOOO dirty because it's been sitting up in my barn on the rack for some time now while i tiddle with little things like oil leaks and axle woes. it hurts to see all that nice interior covered with dirt.

i know it's a little "ricey" for some, and as of now i've decided to lose the decals. i used to autocross with some ricers a couple of years back. the paint gets alot of attention and the rims are ( were ) made by A.R.E. who i'm told are discontinued.

thanks to all who have helped and continue to provide input on my project.

Brian

well, as you can see i took those in the evening so i plan to do some more off the trailer and with better lighting. BTW the air cleaner is temporary until i figure out what to do about my decklid. that high-rise intake is a little too high. i want a low profile air cleaner or something but the carb itself hits the decklid with nothing on it. the interior looks exactly like the Mercruiser car and i had never seen that car before. strange, huh. what's more strange is that i particularly don't like the Mercruiser car either. oh well. if i could do the whole thing over again i would probably choose black interior with a solid white exterior. But doesn't it just look like a big Hot Wheels car ?? i love it.

Excellent job on the targa! More pics/details would be nice. I kinda like the graphics - I'd leave them. Oh, and I would sell me the rims.

Hi Steve. The tranny seems fine so far. I fear it may be geared a little too low for the V8 but we'll see. It seems excellent for drag racing so far but raps out pretty high on the open road. I don't think it will last long but i'm trying to be conservative. Thanks for the extra cradle too. it really helped out in the longrun.

I would lke to know what you used for the targa? Did you custom make the roof peices, or did you take them from another car? Do you have a roof for it?
I like the graphics. what wheels are those?

i used one roof from a Fiero that had a sunroof, and the replacement Targa top is the original solid roof. when replacing the roof, you must take out the black piece covering the B pillars, and replace it with the original roof. does that make any sense ?
the wheels are made by A.R.E. which i am told are no longer in business.

actually that makes a lot of sense now. I can see it in the pics. could you get more close ups of the roof when you get a chance. what did you use for the A-pillars and the front seal?

the A pillars are from a pontiac sunbird convertible with some slight mods. the header i designed myself. i left off the visors because i hate sun visors on any vehicle. they are useless. they look even more stupid on convertibles. you can't use the sunbird header because of the curvature of the sunbird. alot of people find this out the hard way after the cut is already made. i actually thought about cutting Targa tops for people as a hobby for some side cash. hmmmm.

Y'know...I don't usually like the ricey paint jobs...but this one works. I actually like it. The wheels add to the whole effect. The only thing I'd change would be to get rid of the "Radioactive" decals on the front fenders. Not crazy about the interior, either, but the targa top is awesome!

Nice job! The paint is sweet. The glare from the white dash may be hard to take in the sun... especially with the top off (ever notice how annoying it is to pick up the reflection from a white piece that's laying on the dash?). I like the door panels. Is the Targa an old kit or one of your design?

Beautiful!

Does the Targa leak at all, and how much would you charge to do this conversion for people?

Thanks!

boy that's no kidding about the glare on the windshield !! i have to lay a black towel over it when i drive in the bright sun. at night it's not an issue though. how much would i charge ?? well, i wouldn't even consider it unless the x-frame was already welded in. not everyone likes climbing over a roll-bar to get into their car. also, if you'll notice i don't have any arm rests. this was a mistake i noticed AFTER the door panels were already recovered and the blank space cut out of them. this Targa was completely my design and idea, and i actually taped it with a camcorder when i cut it out and recorded all the measurements. bad thing is that i can't find the video but i remember my landmarks. since this is a "fair weather" car only, i've never seen it wet so i can't vouch for any leaks. i can say that it does fit as snug as a corvette targa but not as flush. when i say not as flush, i mean within 1/8th of an inch gap due to the seals. i never did complete the window seals, but basically you cut out the old seal and attach it onto the targa and repaint the actual targa to hide reglass and hide the bodywork. the trick is to stabilize the seal because it is only a rubber seal not rigid. like i said, this is only a weekend car. considering x-frames usually start at $500 and you already buy one, to do a pro job and cover expenses on my part would probably hover around $1000. i don't know if i would trust myself cutting on someone else's car. maybe i'll sell the video or something. i can say that it really isn't that hard of a project, and it's been a dream of mine for some time. i do not regret it a bit.

i felt that the roll bars were enough, and the car feels tighter now than it did with the roof in. and YES i pulled the wheels off the ground, and it cost me an axle. it hooked up WAY too hard. that's where i am now. the car is on the trailer to go get it's exhaust finished in the pics. these were about a week ago before the last axle incident.

so is the frame support youve done, just the bar along the bottom of the doorway?

i really really want to do this mod. i always wanted to with the beretta, but that was pretty much impossible.

looks very pimp. i love it.

also, the b piller? you mean the one behind your head correct? and im not understanding the part with the sunbird, y its different

I agree with Loki, both on exterior and interior, altho I think I'd take the stickers off.

A really nice targa!

I too want the rims...

BTW Loki, that's a cool signature!

if you go look at a Sunbird header, you will understand. i guess if you really really wanted to make it work, you could. making the cut at such a curve would be rather difficult and there is really no point in having the curve if you are not planning on using the convertible top. if you do plan on using the top, that's different. you are correct. the "A" pillars are above your head and the "B" pillars are behind your head.
