hey everybody, I have recently acquired a 5-speed transaxle for my V6 '86 SE. I currently have a 4-speed , i don't know why. Anyway, I would appreciate if anyone out there has anything i need to know while i do this project, or if anybody out there has taken their transaxle out, to tell it here. I'm not sure how to get this thing out without a hoist, or the support bracket they mention in the service manual. All i have is a floor jack and jack stands.

You can drop the rear part of the engine cradle, and get the trans out from under. Read more here: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/A...060206-2-066659.html

You'll need the 5-speed's slave cyl, shifter, cables, and mounts I think.

Hopefully you got a 5 speed from a V6 Fiero, that would be the transmission known around here as the Getrag, (although it is more formally known as a Muncie 282).

The 5 speed from the 4 cylinder is known as the Isuzu and it can't handle as much power as the Getrag and the gearing isn't quite as good.

Well..if you are not going to beat the living daylights out of it.. the Isuzu works quite well.. I like mine better than my old 4 spd...... plus I am getting better gas mileage now....

I didn't read the link on doing it but I tried to put a izzy 5sp on my 3.4 (that 's another story)
Had mine in and out three times trying to make it work.

If you pull the left axle and strut out and drop the back of the cradle far enough you can work the trans out the left side fairly easily.

Either way you have to deal with the shift cables. I made an adaptor to use the 4sp cables with my izzy 5sp.
