Recently I posted a question re: supercharging a 2.8 with pretty much a thumbs down response. What about a turbo charger? Worth the time and effort? Ballpark cost to complete?

there are a couple of kits out there for turbo's for the 2.8 fiero. they run around 3k$ for non intercooled, and I think a 1800$ addon to add intercooling (also adds knock sensor, ecm, etc). Search is your friend.... I can't remember the links, but search or google will find em

I have the miller woods turbo setup on my 86 2.8 notchie boosting 8psi. They are no longer around to my knowledge but it's basically the same kit offered by Design 1. There was another from the KFG group, but I don't know much about them other than their website seems to be gone.
It makes a noticeable difference but if I hadn't bought the car with turbo kit already installed I would have looked at doing a 3800SC instead.

Do some searching, or simply PM or email Sluppy123 here on the forum... He has an 87 GT with an intercooled, turbo'd, 2.8, auto. It's a very nice car, and he has taken every detail into consideration, as he put the setup together himself. I've found a thread... Here's the link with pictures... If I find some others, I'll post back.
If you stay and plan on staying stock then I would say go nitrous for the ease of installation and you are not adding wear when you are not spraying. If plan on doing rods, pistons, sleeves and an intake I would go turbo that way you can run a good amount of boost (20+ psi) and make real good power.

I have the stock 2.8 as does Sratt110, above. I have the KFG kit and it is set to max. at 8 lbs. of boost. Although I am having some headaches with the turbo chip parameters, the kit went in without a hitch, not one problem. I have a water / alcohol injection system which takes the place of the expensive intercooler system, actually manufactured by the same company, and works well. Cost, total, about $ 2,800 including the water/ alcohol injection. And yes, it brings the 2.8 to life. Ed
Well, I sure don't have the expertise to build one from scrap parts. The KFG set up Firefighter uses sounds good but I think someone said they're no longer in business? If that's the case, a 3800SC is sounding better and better.
You can piece together a turbo kit for less than a grand. You can take pictures of other peoples piping to a shop and they can replicate it for you. Flanges and that sort can be bought very cheap try http://www.spooledmotorsports.com/turbochargers.html for cheap used turbos and flanges.
Blow off valves, wastegates and boost controllers are all a dime a dozen.
Talk to Caddyrocket as well. Not sure but OLDSDOCTOR had a turbo kit for $500 that came with the works.
