A neat little score (Page 1/1)

My poor old Tom-Tom XL gave up the ghost <wailing, sobbing and teeth gnashing >. I got it in 2010 for 40 bucks, it managed to survive Canadian winters and summers locked in a car, a period of being stuck in the bottom of a bag in a homeless shelter, and 3 years of being bounced around an apartment from drawer-to-drawer.

I tried to turn it on, and the screen gave me the universal finger sign and said "I'm retired"

Well fine then, screw you. Enjoy another 5 years going junk-drawer to junk drawer

Went out and got a Magellan RoadMate 6630..I'm liking this thing. Built-in dash cam, lifetime updates included (however long that is) and a 5" screen. Big enough to see but not obtrusive. 98 bucks on sale factory refurb. Gotta figure it all out, but I really like having the dash cam built-in. There are too many scammers around here these days that throw it in reverse at a stoplight, back into you, then claim you rear-ended them. It happened to one of my regular Uber guys a few months ago. Its not perfect, but does offer a little protection.

Over heating the battery was my biggest issue.
Well I had a similar unit. Gave up the ghost in less than 2 years but it did take be back and forth to Florida and Indiana without any issues as well as weekend trips to Ohio from Indiana.
The dash cam is nice and it had lots of features that I liked but it got really hot and the last trip to Florida didn't agree with it. I had to reboot it, little hole in the back several times then it just gave up and had lines across the display.

Good luck I am back to Garmin. 2 years and it got me safe to California and is still the one of the best and responsive units I have had.

Ive had some problems over the last few years with drivers. I now have dash cams in all my vehicles. They even go on and off with ignition so I dont have to even remember anything. The vehicles I have that dont have built in GPS have one. I have TomTom and Garmin. The only issue I have with TomTom are free updates are just added to memory along with new full maps...and leave the old maps in the memory. Ive had to go in and actually delete all the maps, and reprogram it with a whole new update or it runs out of memory space after a few of the updates. I like the Garmin. I like the talking to it feature so you dont have to ever push a button, and all my emails and texts are shown...and spoken to me with voice or ignored and read later. Its also great for finding stuff like all the restaurants, gas and dump stations nearby at any time. A lot of other features too numerous to mention.
