First Man: The Neil Armstrong movie (Page 1/5)

It seems Hollywood decided to omit the planting of the US flag on the moon in the Neil Armstrong movie just released. This was an iconic moment of that mission. The fact that this was done makes me wonder why that footage was not included.

Some of that decision I think is because movies now have to have a world-wide appeal.

They have to sell in Europe and China as well as America.

So it's Economic.

Hollywood has a problem. They are no longer the only place movies are being made. Anyone can make a movie --- YOUTUBE!!!

Media is a growing addiction. We were feed slowly, by TV scheduled at certain times, and movies released a few times a year. We were always addicted to the stories and the glitz of it all, but now we can experience it any time we want. Their willingness to provide us with the drug, constant media 24/7/365, has lead to their own demise (or future demise). There is no authenticity in much of it (fake news), integrity, or even quality to what they provide. But, to them it does not matter.

This will lead to us in some sense growing sick-of-it-all but more importantly to us becoming more discriminatory in what we view. We will move to higher ground and they have to move with us.

Ryan Gosling’s new film “First Man,” which depicts astronaut Neil Armstrong’s journey to the moon, is at the center of a political firestorm. Conservative commentators lashed out at the film for excluding the famous moment where the American flag is planted on the moon’s surface. Armstrong’s sons defended the film. NBC’s Joe Fryer reports for TODAY.

Actor Ryan Gosling and Neil Armstrong's sons, Mark and Rick Armstrong, defend the film's treatment of the American flag, which is visible during multiple scenes on the surface of the moon. It's only the initial planting of the flag onto the moon's surface that is not in any of the scenes.

"Ryan Gosling, Neil Amstrong’s sons defend 'First Man' amid flag controversy"

Director Damien Chazelle, who also helmed La La Land and Whiplash, has echoed the sentiments of the Armstrong brothers on the selective storytelling.

“I wanted the primary focus in that scene to be on Neil’s solitary moments on the moon — his point of view as he first exited the (Lunar Module), his time spent at Little West Crater, the memories that may have crossed his mind during his lunar (exploration),” he said in a statement Friday, according to Hollywood Reporter.

The film, which debuted this past week at the Venice Film Festival, will arrive stateside Oct. 12.

Ironically, the controversy may endure longer than the flag itself: Aldrin told controllers he saw the flag knocked over with a blast of spacecraft exhaust, NASA has said.

The flag really wasn’t designed to endure the blastoff, let alone the lunar environment, or lack thereof. It was purchased from a Sears store for $5.50, NASA said. Department-store flags cannot even withstand terrestrial wear and tear, like sunlight and wind, for more than a few years.

On the moon, decades of extreme temperatures, ultraviolet radiation and micrometeorites have probably disintegrated the flag entirely, scientists say, and the bombardment of unfiltered sunlight has probably bleached flags left on subsequent missions stark white.

I knew if anyone would want to defend against a flag, it would be our pet Ronald.

I got an idea, let's fill every thread with absolute BS. Just fill it up. Why should we walk through truths, when we can so easily just bathe in our own feelings?

If I went to a movie and it showed me exactly what I might predict of it in advance, then I would not think it was much of a movie. I probably wouldn't think about such a movie again.

If I went to a movie and it ignored historic events or omitted pertinent information, then I would not think it was much of a movie. I probably wouldn't think about such a movie again.

Somewhat of a reference as to my thinking...

"Boardwalk Empire". We are currently in the final season of this older show. I am a HUGE fan of that era and have always sought out information. I have not fact checked the show, but they have botched so many aspects of it, that I find it irritating at times to follow. Just knowing a thing or two about history, and then to see it portrayed through the eyes of an "artist" kind of hacks the mood.

Many truly see movies as real life. Especially movies depicting facts. It bothers me that our limited minds grasp such falsehoods so easily.

That is precisely how he killed the OptiBoard O/T section.

He spammed the ever lovin' sh*t out of it with his "Radio Free Rinsel" crap until the admins had to close it down.

That's when the insane troll came here to PFF

Surely I'm not the only one that just skips over his crap while reading a thread. I find it much easier to handle that way.
