Olympics (Page 1/2)

Do people even care about the Olympics anymore? I haven't seen a thread on here about them. I haven't watched 1 event. I mean aside from the story I heard yesterday about the guy who accidentally let the flag touch the ground, I haven't heard diddly. I know the internet was in a huge uproar about that. I don't really social media, but the like I do, hasn't been anything. Certainly not more than the asinine political crap I always see.

I havent watched a single event, and when I go into the cafe across the street I find it an irritation if they have it playing.

Never was a fan, though.

I watched the downhill just for the possibility of seeing a wreck. I was not disappointed. Same reason I occasionally still watch NASCAR.
(hey..at least I'm honest about it)

I meant to watch the thrill-a-minute, sitting-on-the-edge-of-my-seat curling event but missed it. Who knew using a broom would one day be an Olympic event? In a few years, maybe we will see ceiling fan dusting as well, or bathtub cleaning included.

My late wife and I always enjoyed the coverage of the Olympic Games.
It was refreshing and uniting to see human beings from all over the world competing and celebrating together.
No political commentary, just dedicated athletes competing to see who came out on top.

Then the broadcasters had to put a political spin on the games. First it was about the Medal Race - America has to win the most medals.
Then it was the evil Russians, or Cubans or whomever.
Then the Social Justice Warriors had to comment on the athletes personal choices.

The Olympics is about athletics, about athletes training, dedicating and competing to see which ONE athlete in that event has reached the Pinnacle of their chosen sport.

The broadcast media has ruined the Games, politicized Olymic sport for ratings.

I will not watch, I will not donate, and I have unplugged my TV from outside signals (best move, highly recommended!).

Rating and money have again ruined any attempt that humanity makes to unite in the true spirit of competition.

Heard some DJ in Texas is in trouble because he twittied that figure skating was not a sport.

I refuse to watch it anyway and agree. That is not to suggest that I don't think figure skating is athletic but the competition is subjective to some judge's opinion and not how fast, how accurate or points scored due to anything other than the judges' opinions. Unlike Curling with all the drama, anxious moments of huge anticipation and exhaustive performances. Figure skating bores me.

The only thing i can say about Olympics is they screw up all of my tv schedule. A lot of my weekly shows are off for a few weeks. Thank god they dont preempt any of my car races.

Top and bottom scores are thrown out IIRC. I'm good, where's my metal medal and Wheaties pic?
