That thing with the apple and Eve is real. You see it expressed in our genes. An area that got conquered will show male genes of the conqueror and genes of the conquered female. Males want to protect and preserve what exists in their area. Females are fine with whatever as long as they and their offspring are preserved.

There is something to be said for the idea of Alpha males being the traditional hunters and warriors and females being the gatherers and nest builders.

Unfortunately evolution (or environment) seems to have evolved a type of "Beta male" that trends more toward the female role(s)
