Predictions ? Wishes ? Curiosities ? No predictions for me. There is a reason I do not participate in the weekly NFL prediction threads, . I really am not up on the draft pool, nor the draft order of teams. I do have to wonder where Johnny Football will end up. Being that he played high school here where I live. He didn't impress me then too much but ... he has done well since. There is even an outside chance he may end up a Cowboy, if he lasts till the 16th pick.
I don't think Johnny Football will last til the 16th pick. I think Houston should pick up Manziel. But Mike Mayock thinks he will go to the Cowboys. I am curious as to who the Patriots will pick up, but I don't think it will be anything spectacular. The Texans need some draft love and they can be serious contenders, again, this year.
I think the Texans will take Clowney or Mack, pick up a QB in the second round, then use the rest of their picks to get some Safteys, DB's, and Defensive lineman.
I think Houston will draft Johnny Manziel, tho it would not surprise me if he somehow ends up in Big D.. I also think they are ready to trade wide receiver Andre Johnson.

Round 2.......... The defensive pick O'Brien chose makes ya wonder what Houston's new coach is looking for..
After last year's QB debacle, everyone thought Hou would look for a passer in the draft, but maybe the coach has opted to stick with the 2 young one's he already has and wants to limit the # of points his opponents can score, tho Alabama's AJ Mccarron is still available. Surely they won't go for former Texan QB David Carr's younger brother Derek Carr... But they might. Carr is rated highest by many coaches around the NFL as far as the remaining college QBs go. Rumor mill tho, says they will trade a draft pick + for Patriot Ryan Mallett. Whoever they pick, they need to beef up their O line to protect him. I personally like McCarron out of all left available in the draft.
I wasn't terribly impressed with JJ Watts last year. Clowney will take some pressure off of Watts, but Watts is going to have to stay healthy and really perform for the Texan defense to be rock solid. Lose either pass rusher and Hou is right back where they were last year--not being able to stop losing because they can't hold a lead.

Johnny Football looked none too happy, though he put on a good game face. The analysts said perhaps Jerry Jones' people had convinced him that they need defensive help most, and the examples/stats made a good case. They thought Jerry might be Jerry and grab Manziel ... being Romo is 34 and has had two back surgeries and Aikman retired at 34 with one back surgery. That if Roma goes down in game three of the season ... Jerry would have wished he did pick up Manziel. Yet the Cowboys pick offensive line help, . Johnny's home town talk was that he aspired to be a Cowboy.

I don't think the Patriots will trade off Ryan Mallett, he is being trained to replace Brady when that day comes. Just like they did with Brady when Bledsoe was with the Patriots.
I agree with you about JJ Watts, he wasn't as impressive as he was the year before last. But he is still a beast. The Texans are going to have a stronger Defense this year, I just hope they can get their Offense and their Offensive Line together.
I can't believe Manziel went to the Browns. Good Luck to Manziel there.
I make it no secret how big of a JJ Watt fan I am, heck I have his poster on my wall, and his jersey.
There is no argument that his overall numbers were down last season, but he still had a great year. He still led the league in QB hits. His problem is that he was double teamed almost every play all season, because no one else on the line commanded enough of a presence to draw another defender. I think overall, the defense was worse last year that the previous year, leaving many teams to be able to double up on Watt and not have to worry about another threat. Antonio Smith and Whitney Mercilus both had very good stats last year, and the majority of them were sloppy seconds left behind from Watt's disruption. I think that with Clowney on one end and Watt on the other, at least one of them will be getting penetration on most plays. Or so I hope
Edit: I also think that the Pats will toss O'Brian a bone with Mallett. Look for them to give up a 3rd round pick or so. Then Mallett and Fitzpatrick will have to compete for a starting job.

3rd round, and Houston still hasn't drafted a qb. Maybe the Mallett trade deal is true, since the Patriots have now chosen Jimmy Garoppolo as another QB to backup or eventually replace Tom Brady.
How did we get all the way through the draft in this thread without one homophobic or sodomy comment about Michael Sam?
Some of you guys are slippin'..
I think it's wonderful a man who plays football will get a chance to prove how good he is, in a venue that appears to care little to nothing at all about what he does in his bedroom.
Can the Jags actually pull themselves out of the basement? It's all on Bortles. They had a very good draft.
Stupid move of the draft: Every team who needed help in the backend passing on Clinton-Dix... he should have never fallen to Green Bay, Detroit Lions should have pounced on him at 11 or 12 or wherever they picked..

Finally, it's a done deal--Houston just claimed Mallett from the Patriots. Wonder which Houston QBs are going to go bye bye? Answer--Case Keenum is GONE!

Ryan Mallett has long been linked to the Texans, and it appears the Patriots backup quarterback is finally on his way to Houston.
New England traded Mallett to Houston, where former Pats offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien is now head coach, on Sunday for a conditional 2016 seventh-round draft pick, according to NFL.com. The Texans had to trade for Mallet rather than claiming the 6-6, 240-pound QB because the Cowboys wanted him too, according to the report.
Ryan Mallett (AP Photo) It's not immediatly clear what kind of action Mallett will see with the Texans. The 26-year-old is still a mystery in the NFL, having completed just one pass in three years of regular-season action behind Tom Brady.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is the current starter in Houston, with Case Keenum and rookie Tom Savage second and third string. Keenum, however, is expected to be the odd man out.
The Patriots, meanwhile, are left with rookie Jimmy Garoppolo, who performed well enough throughout the preseason to allow Mallett's departure, as the lone backup in case something happens to Brady.

In the news...........
Sam was cut by the Rams yesterday--still unclaimed on waivers. He might be able to "make it in the NFL" somewhere but not for the Rams.
he shouldnt have made out ON ESPN , they dont even have hetero players making out with their wives or girlfriends on camera on ESPN.
now we need to cut Jonathan Martin from 49ers, the pot smoking snitch that ruined the Dolphins O-line last season making Fins QB most sacked in the leauge. We had no order due to him , the players even when they beat playoff teams like the Bangels showed NO DISIPLINE or respect for the coach. You cant even get away with on field antics like that in Highschool football
I don't think his "make out" segment on ESPN was the reason they cut him. They have to get under the 53 man limit and were already in good shape for the DE position, then got Ethan Westbrooks when no one else wanted him.
quote
Sam's chances of making the roster wouldn't have been a question on almost any team but the Rams, who field All-Pro caliber defensive ends Chris Long and Robert Quinn in their 4-3 scheme.
Sam's biggest road block was Ethan Westbrooks, a fellow rookie defensive end who went undrafted out of under-the-radar West Texas A&M.
How could an undrafted player from a Division II school beat out the SEC Defensive Player of the Year?
Westbrooks was not only the best Rams defensive end this preseason, but his Pro Football Focus overall defensive rating of 15.0 led the NFL by far (No. 2 rated 10.6). He, arguably more than any player in the league, has proven his worth.
The question became how many defensive linemen St. Louis wanted to keep on its 53-man roster due by 4:00 p.m. Saturday — which is not necessarily the opening-day roster, by the way.
If the Rams would have kept Sam and Westbrooks, they would have ended up with 10 defensive lineman. That seems like too many, but keep in mind the value of an effective pass rush. The Seahawks built their roster around it and throttled the Broncos' record-breaking offense in last season's Super Bowl.
As long as you're not compromising other positions, there's no such thing as too many pass rushers. Fresh bodies rotating and splitting time allow for a relentless, no-plays-off attack. The Rams feel they don't need Sam, but somebody else does .
He got cut because he's one dimensional pass rusher on a team with a great defensive line... Had nothing to do with his sexuality. I'm kind of glad.. I'm tired of these big I'm coming out press conferences just to get attention and to me that's what it was. He was a boarder line draft pick and wanted to get noticed. If your gay start showing up with your boyfriend..people will figure it out. You don't need to make a big production out of it.
as bad as the cowboys d is that might be a good idea lol I'm not expecting a lot from them this year. They'll be on a record setting pace for worst defense again.

Just maybe we are only a legend in your own mind, .
Oakland announced today, that 12 year veteran Matt Shaub will not be the starting QB for thier team--rookie qb Derek Carr will be. Good choice IMO. Shaub's preseason stats: 24 of 47 for 218 yards and no touchdowns. Schaub also threw one interception in preseason play.
Derek Carr's preseason stats: 30 of 45 for 326 yards and four touchdowns. 1 int.
The rest of the world is finding out what everyone in Houston already knew--Shaub is washed up.
