Looking to buy a 4T60e transmission for my 4.9L Cadillac swap. Its the 1993 model. The guy I purchased it from said 68K miles and it works great. Installed it and it grinds like its blown out. Tried to return it and the guy already skipped town. If I can find one in the W NJ E PA area or in NJ that would be great.
Leads also appreciated.

I suggest that you would be better off having the transmission you have rebuilt.

Joe that really is the best idea. I am now leaning that way but those transmissions are old and you often get the comment that they are expensive to rebuild. Was thinking about rebuilding it myself as the friction discs and bands are not real difficult to replace but the trans may have a gear or sprocket problem and that may complicate things.

Hey Dennis,
The transmissions are not that expensive if you rebuild them yourself. They sell rebuild kits on eBay. There is a guy on YouTube who has videos on how to rebuild GM transmissions. I rebuilt my 4T60 trans with help from his three part video series on that transmission. You can also add a shift kit and a higher stall converter.
It sucks that some people lack integrity. Good luck getting things figured out.
Cheers
John

No big deal replacing the friction plates, bands, seals, relays and some bearings but the trans that I have appears to have damaged planetary gears of which four are inside the final drive housing. Have to check the process to replace them. Actually the stall speed of the TC on the 4.9L transmission is only 1850 RPM. Thats pretty low.

The Caddy 4T60 E should be using a VCC, lockup is controlled by the PCM.

Hey Dennis,
Check eBay for parts for your 4T60e. They have all kinds of stuff.
