Hello again everyone,

I was in the process of replacing the distributor rotor and cap of my 86 GT when I noticed some of my brackets and major components, for lack of better wording, look like crap. I started taking a few easy to reach pieces off that were filthy and rusty and started trying to clean them when I noticed that I don't think I've ever really done any part restoration (usually I just replace stuff and be done).

So I want to ask the people here about intensive cleaning and restoration. For example, I pulled out the air filter housing and noticed all the red paint is chipping off. What would be the best method for removing the paint and rust, and after that, what would be the best method for painting it? And would the same process work with other parts, like the brake booster or the intake plenum?

I do apologize if this is too general of a question, but I am interested in investing some time into actually getting my car to look clean inside and out and would love to hear some advice on general practice for restoring parts as I've never really sat down and done something like this before.
