Hey all - replacing my y-pipe and the heat shield material is really sketchy. Anyone have any good tips on materials to use? This is the 88 version, so its the foil type. What is the material under the metal - fiberglass? Are there any patterns out there?

I'm interested in this. I don't really like my heat shield. It just seems large and ugly. I've wonder about wrapping, but have no experience with it. Some say have bad things to say, others good things.

Yea, in searching on this, I found others that hate the wrap they did due to it gathering moisture and bellowing steam after a rain. I think wrapping it would make it much cleaner looking, but don't want to make it a rust magnet.

Pre-88 shields will require modification to fit as the crossover pipes are not the same.

The Titanium heat wrap works very well.

If you have indoor storage for your car heat wrapping should be fine. Constant moisture is the problem in the rust belt.

Screw it - went with the heat wrap. I keep it garaged and once it dries, I'll hit it with the high-temp silicone spray.

Any idea of how much modification is needed? Is there a thread on this mod?
