Hi,

i have buy many sensors for preventive replacement.
But with the new tps sensor i have bought from rockauto (acdelco).

https://www.rockauto.com/fr...337&cc=1249208&jsn=8

When i plug this new tps sensor, the engine soon service light is on
And the idle is surging 1400-1600 rpm cold
When i replug my old sensor the ilde is good and stable and the light is off.

It is possible the new tps sensor acdelco is faulty ?
I have a 88 fiero v6 and the sensor is comptaible with my 88 v6 fiero.
I have proceed to a replacement but before to send this item i want know your advice (bad sensor or bad installation of this sensor is possible ? )

Thank you
Greeting.

Absolutely.

Fortunately, the TPS is one of the easiest sensors to check... with either a scanner or even a multi-meter.

While it is possible the sensor is bad . . . did you do the relearn? There is a procedure on here that involves putting the car in diagnostic mode momentarily to force the relearn.

I don't know that its always necessary. But, I once had the same idle surging when I installed a TPS, and it was fixed by going through the procedure.

Do a quick search on here . . .

Yes, you should perform an ECM re-learn when replacing the TPS. Otherwise, the TPS voltage will be different from what the ECM is used to, and the ECM will get confused.

I have installed the New tps but same probem I have drive around 20 minutes at 60 mph the service light is turning on and the idle surge beetween 1400 and 1600rpm.

What is the procedure to make an ecm relearn for the tps?

Thank you.

I have bought an tps ACDELCO 2133164

I have compared with the old one, and the old tps doesn't have a screw on the rear

I think This tps is not compatible
I have seen This tps WVE/AIRTEX/WELLS 5S5035 and it's the same without screw.

Have you managed to make it work This ACDELCO 2133164 on your fiero ?

Thanks.

What is it about the new TPS that doesn't allow it to install and/or operate in the proper manner?

Installation ok fit easily.
This tps doesn't work properly, the idle is surging and the light service soon is turning on even after drive around 20km but the ecm doesn't relearn.

What leads you to suspect the problem is the TPS?

What trouble codes have been stored?

What are the idle and WOT voltage readings from the TPS?

I came across a video online that might be helpful for someone not familiar with installing and/or testing a TPS.

There have been numerous references in this thread to the ECM needing to "relearn". For a TPS replacement??? I thought that was only necessary when re-installing an IAC valve.

I have reolug my old tps and ecerything working properly, I would change the tps preventively but my old is working fine.

I suspect This ACDELCO doesn't work with fiero.
But on the rear of the tps, I have seen a screw to set up the voltage I presume, my old one doesn't have a screw to setup like the other reference I have wroted below.

I highly doubt it.. You must be referring to the screw that attaches the lever to the potentiometer which is located inside the housing.

Not that it normally needs to be messed with, but that video I posted above discusses how to adjust the Fiero 2.8's TPS voltage.
