I have my V8 out to do some work. The passenger side axle over extended and the tripot separated and punctured the axle boot. The axle is almost new. Where can I get a replacement boot and how does the axle come apart to put the boot back on?

A one piece boot gets stretched over the cv with a stretcher tool. They are available at any autoparts store ( the boot)

I will check that out. Seems impossible the small end that fits the axle could stretch over the CV joint.

Thanks for the tip.

Try this video. A good repair manual will also have a good step by step on how to fix it.

The video has very good instructions.
The only thing that I would add. When doing the tripot end, wipe off as much grease as possible, leave the bearing assemblies on the tripot. Use (duct)tap or very wide rubber band to keep the assembly together. Some of the assemblies are the round type and reinstalling the needle bearing can be a pain.
After you reinstall the assembly onto the axle, remove the tap, clean with Braklean. You have to insure you clean out the old grease. The new grease may not be compatible. Even if clean, it can cause the new grease to break down. Push some of the grease into the needle bearings. Take about half the grease and put it in the housing. The rest, put in the boot right before you put the clamp on.
