I am using a 4 cyl thermostat housing on a 3.4 doch swap. I cut the flange off and I am trying to weld a section of 1 1/2" pipe to extend
the housing to clear the throttle cable.

I cannot get the weld to stick very well to the thermostat housing, only the pipe. I have read some posts where a few people did
weld to the housing. How did you do it?

Thanks for any help.

Get some gas & regular wire. Will make a world of difference.

FWIW, when I did mine ages ago for my 3800 swap, I brazed it.

x2

Or take it to a welder and have them do it. Shouldn't cost much.

That makes sense. It did look like the joints were copper or brass.

Yeah, it might be easier to just take them to a shop for brazing.

I have welded them to metal plates before, just need to make sure you stay away from any factory seams as they were brazed.

If you're willing to try it, I used a little oxy/map gas rig I picked up at Home Depot. It's not very expensive and gets the job done. The tanks don't last long, but it works.
