I work as a Windows and Linux technician, but I've never touched any computer controls for cars. I have a 7730 ECM that I would like to remove the smog controls on, and I'm just wondering how hard would it be. What equipment would I need and where can I find the info for which codes to disable? Thanks in advance.

for the money you will spend. unless it is something you will continue to do you would be better off contacting Darth fiero and just tell him what you want and let him do it..

It is not difficult but it will cost you some $$$ for hardware and software.

-You'll need a chip burner. Moates.net sells chip burners that can only reprogram flash-memory PROMs. For the other types of chips (UV-erasable and single program EPROMs) I use a GQ-4X programmer.
-You'll either need a UV EPROM eraser (to erase the stock 27C256 EPROM chip used in the 7730 ECMs) or mem-cal adapter board so you can run a flash memory chip (like the AT29C256 or 27SF512).
-You'll need tuning software. TunerPro RT is a free download although they ask you for a donation to remove the nag screens. I prefer TunerCat myself but use both.

There's a lot of reading you'll need to do if you want to do your own tuning beyond just turning off codes and smog functions. Best places to start are below:

http://www.thirdgen.org/promintro
http://para.noid.org/~lj/PC...rial/PCMtutorial.htm

Of course, if you don't want to invest your money and time in doing it all yourself, there are people on here (myself and others) who can do your tuning via mail order.

I am actually selling off my last Fiero - and I have this setup, I bought a Moates Burn2, and a pile of chips, paid like $125 for the setup, make me an offer and its yours. I only used it once to burn an image for my EGR delete on my 86. Probably wont need it again. PM me if interested, I just as soon see it get used if you want to start playing with this stuff.

HPTuners is OBD2 only. It won't work on an OBD1 1227730.
