Has anyone ever cut new snap ring grooves in their axle shafts to shorten them up?

I am doing a V-8 swap and the drivers side axle is about 1/2 to 3/4" too long.
I think if I cut new snap ring grooves in further on the shaft I can achieve what I need.
I know they are hardened and will use a lathe and an abrasive cutting wheel.

I can't see any problem, you may want to cut the same amount off the end so it doesn't bind on anything, but if you have enough spline to go further in I would say to go for it. Larry

Yes I had to cut new snap ring grooves and cut off 3/4" of the axle, pretty much exactly what you need.. was no problem at all..

Cut New Snap Ring Grooves In The Drivers Side Axle Shaft And
Removed 1/4 To 1/2" From Each End.
It Turned Out Perfect!
