I have removed my entire headlights before and replaced the interior components. That worked well. However, for the past month, only one headlight has come up. The left headlight comes up, and while the right headlight turns on (the light), the headlight motor doesn't make any noise or attempt to come up. This is why I suspect it is an electrical issue. No experience in electrical work ever... any advice will be helpful.
If you raise it manually by turning the knob, will it go down on it's own? Swap the relay mounted on each headlight assembly and see if the problem moves to the other side. Since you've rebuilt them before, you know how to remove the limiter switch cover. Check to see if the brushes are still attached to the spring arms. This of course is assuming you have the 85-86 model Fiero and headlights. BTW, the headlight bulbs are independent of the motor circuitry. They can come on even if the motors are completely unplugged.
I was having the same issue and I didn't fully fix it but it has gotten 10X better. Mine was the driver side so im assuming your problem is the passenger. Fierofool's advice is great and let us know if the problem continued on that same side after swapping the relay mounts.
Another thing to try is turn the headlights on and kinda do a hammerfist down on the top of the knob and see if that makes it turn. I uploaded a video to youtube and also tried some other things that seemed to work for some unknown reason.
(Sorry I don't remember on how to get the whole video to play on this site)
Yeah, I forgot the hammerfist test. That can tell you if you might have let the rubber seal at the top of the motor slip out and wedge itself underneath the motor knob. If you did, it won't let the points for the up position activate because the down points have never opened.
I'm having the same problem with my passenger side headlight. Is there a conversion package for Fiero light systems that eliminate the hidden lights? Maybe something similar to stationary regular headlights with a lens? If so, I am definitely considering the change. Thanks, Melissa
I had the same problem, turns out a bolt had dropped down into where the light goes down into, and was obstructing the light from moving ! once the bolt was removed, it went back to working fine. LOL
It's probably just a blown headlight motor. Open the hood and check if the little knob on top of the motor is spinning, if so you need new gears to rebuild the motor as they are plastic and will worn out after 20 years. If not, just get a new motor and swap it. It's not hard to do just need 10mm socket and wrench
Hi, Melissa. You still have the little yellow one? Do a search for doublec4 or EmbraceRacing and you'll find one of the better designs of flushmounts. I have what I believe to be Munson's flushmounts on my SE and I can hardly see anything at night, nor can I focus them independently and properly. Embrace Racing has moved their lights forward to better illuminate the roadway immediately in front of you and to the side, plus high and low beams are independently adjustable. https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum4/HTML/067821.html
Selfie: If anyone wants or must keep the original system, I offer a rebuild at $30 plus shipping. You provide the gears of your choice.
