Trump admin pulls plug on $4B for California's 'train to nowhere' project

President Trump calls Newsom-backed initiative a 'boondoggle' with zero miles of track completed after a decade

quote
California's embattled high-speed rail project suffered a major setback after Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the termination of $4 billion in unspent federal funding by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).

Citing 16 years of failure, no completed high-speed track, and escalating costs, Duffy declared the project, dubbed the "train to nowhere," a mismanaged and over-budget "boondoggle."

"This is California’s fault. Governor Newsom and the complicit Democrats have enabled this waste for years. Federal dollars are not a blank check – they come with a promise to deliver results," Duffy said in a statement.

The announcement followed months of scrutiny after a comprehensive compliance review, plus failed attempts by the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) to address serious project deficiencies.

I'm actually surprised it took this long for this administration to do this. Boondoggle is right. Follow the money and see who still got richer off this.......

Oh man... Blackrams... where to start.

I have to say, this is absolutely a perfect example of the difference between how a progressive government handles projects, compared to a conservative government handles projects. There's so much to say, I don't even really know where to start. The billions that have been spent over the years, combined, all on this project is just astounding... and there's almost nothing to show for it.

This high-speed rail, at least the concept in CA... they'd been working on this since the late 1970s... and they have nothing.

Florida began the planning phase of their high-speed track from Miami to Orlando back in 2012, started it in 2014, and completed the rail from Miami to West Palm by 2018 (only 4 years), with the rest to Orlando completed by 2022. They've since also added routes / tracks to Kennedy Space Center and the Orlando Airport last year. Next, they're working on an additional route from Orlando to Tampa, and also from Orlando to Jacksonville.

Florida: 235 Miles of track completed at less than $3 billion, in 8 years.
California: 22 Miles of high-speed track completed at over $23 billion, in 17 years.

And for California, I'm being generous, and not counting all the billions spent from 1979-2008 that includes multiple planning commissions, studies, research, etc...

For Florida, that's 7.8 miles per one million
For California, that's 0.95 per one billion

If we were looking at efficiency, oh my God... Florida is 7,000% more efficient!

Granted, California's terrain is a bit more complicated... but it's not like Florida doesn't also have rivers and bridges they had to build. It's incredibly to me just how poorly mismanaged California has handled this.

Time for an audit. Newsom always seems pretty comfortable, perhaps its time to look in to where his family money came from.
Where the **** does the money go?

This is the perfect example of a Democrat mentality. Spend billions on something that fails, but NEVER admit your mistake. Instead, keep pouring money on it until something comes out of it. Trump see's right through the Democratic stupidity.

Oh Todd, I do agree about Progressive Versus Conservative Government. I also partially agree with the almost nothing to show for it as far as if comes to the average California citizen but, some folks made a fortune off this boondoggle to include potentially politicians. DOJ should be following that money trail.
