For anyone in France on the 1st weekend of October 2024, **For anyone in France on the 3rd weekend of September 2025, comme and watch Turbo Slug Fiero take on a bunch of other powerfull cars. (Up to a 1000HP!?) This will be at the Guiscriff aerodrome on a "no-prep" 1/4 mile track. Should be fun !!
** Initially planned for October 2024, this event is finally approved for September 2025, thanks to all the hard work of the Breizh Coast Racing Team, their supporters and the help of the local authorities.

In order to set up the car more like a real dragster for the upcoming races, I've decided to put some big balloon rubber on the rear.
These tyres are really cheap at about 80€ each, but are good for high speed applications. They remind me of the Cooper Cobras I had on my '77 Trans Am, but instead of just being "T" rated, they are good for 270km/h with a "W" rating.

Rafe, I know you're into drag racing your car... but do those expansive sidewalls on the 255/60/15 tires in the back affect the Fiero's cornering ability compared to something like 225/60/15 tires?
I like the look though. Reminds me of the tires on the cars of my youth.
Looks like we're back on! My registration is still valid, so it's drag racing in September for me! (With a car transporter and not staying on site after hours )

Got the FFSA licence back today all signed up.(Individuel trackday insurance from the french motorsport body) So unless a complete rained off week-end, it seems that this event will be happening. At last !! 👍👌🏁

Is street racing not a problem in France? Having sanctioned drag strips would seem to be a way of giving young (and old ) gear heads a legal outlet for their need for speed. My outlet for years was autocross (which I hope to eventually get back into).
Yes, "urban rodeos" are a problem here. Idiots in cars or on bikes, tearing up some open road for fun, are making it harder to get permission for legitimate events. We don't seem to have reached the levels of the "Stockholm Open" in terms of illegal street racing; the idiots don't have the organisational skills to pull off such a stunt. However, they are giving a bad name to car related events.

So instead of providing "legitimate events" for gear heads (responsible ones as well as idiots) to get it out of their system, the authorities there are making it more difficult to race legally? Whomever's in charge has their approach ass backwards.
Another problem is the cost of a trackday. With the entry fee and the insurance, you have to have a little disposable income here to do these events. The kind of people who do the stupid things on open roads would never put down a couple of hundred euros to participate. Most of them, when caught, have no car insurance, have lost their driving licence and the car is not even roadworthy (MOT/contrôle technique)! I'm sorry to say that we have our fair share of "europeen rednecks" / loosers...

So the 1st Breizh Run finished today. Unfortunately, rather bad weather for a lot of the time. We did manage to get some runs in between the showers! Here are a couple of videos:

We did the runs in batches of 8 cars at a time. They did the rolling starts in the saturday afternoon in order to not have too many cars sliding! The Audi TT video was in the saturday morning just before the track got really soaked. I did one other standing start run just afterwards that morning, but I nearly touched the concrete seperators with the back end! (I forfeited the run and let the other car win; too slippery for me!) You can see in the BMW video (rolling start, saturday afternoon) that the Fiero still spins it's backend out towards the left when I floor it! The track never got dry enough for me to feel safe. Which is why I didn't race on sunday.
