The Saturn 1.9l DOHC weighs 240lbs. The SOHC is 10 or 20 pounds lighter, iirc.

how is a lt4 220lb more than an lt1 that is the same engine,, with different heads,, with the lt4 being alum heads..

Agreed, LT1 weights are off. I have an iron-head LT1 in my Firebird and there's no way it weights over 780lbs WITH the T-56 transmission attached.

Depending on the car, some LT1's had iron heads and some had aluminum heads.
Mine has alum heads.

NO LT4'S HAD IRON HEADS, SO THEY SHOULD NOT BE HEAVIER THAN AN IRON HEADED LT1..
almost all gen1/2 sbc are 575 lb 598 with iron intake
over 1000 lb not a chance.. not even a big block.. untill you fully dress it.. and with iron everything.. tops 1000 lb

Quad-4 weighs 325lbs.

Your list as set up is kind of deficient in denoting the differences in the engine families... for instance you make no distinction between iron and aluminum heads in the 60* category. Also the LX9 3500 doesn't fit in with the other LZ/LG 'High Value' engines as it doesn't share the same VVT architecture...

The 3800, or Buick V6 as you listed it also has some significant changes between Series I and II... the LN3, LG7, L27 and the Series 1 L67 don't share the same block with the L32 and Series II L67.

Here is a reference for the LX9 3500, which will be essentially the same for all non-VVT aluminum head 60* V6 engines.(2.8MPFI/3.1MPFI/3100/3400)
Official LX9 Weigh-in

No alternator, power steering or A/C = 340lbs.

362 lb - GM 60 Degreee V6 OHV N/A Gen 1 (L44, LB6, LB8, LH0, L32)

The LS4 I weighed was fully dressed except for the power steering pump, wiring harness, and computer. There were some pretty hefty cast iron brackets used on this engine that were still on it when I weighed it, and I'm sure that helped tip the scales a bit. I did weigh some of these components individually...

LS4 Engine Weights

Shortblock (dry): 259 lbs (incl crank, rods, pistons, cam, lifters, oil pan, balancer)
Heads (each) : 23 lbs (incl valves, springs, retainers, locks)
Pushrods/rocker arms: 13 lb
Valve covers (both): 6 lb
Intake, TB, hardware, fuel rails: 17 lb
Misc brackets, hardware: 21 lb
Front cover / water pump: 15 lb
starter, alt, hardware: 24 lb
mounts, pulleys, hardware: 12 lb
coil packs (both banks): 8 lb
a/c compressor: 15 lb
head gaskets: 2 lb
head bolts, other gaskets, hardware: 5 lb
front exh manifold: 16 lb
rear exh manifold: 11 lb
exh crossover: 8 lb

Was the Northstar also weighed fully-dressed or was it stripped down to the bare longblock when it was weighed?

That's right. I forgot about the alternator mount on the ls4. It is a massive cast iron piece. I always wondered why they didn't just cast it out of aluminum.

You need to split up the LS engine family quite a bit more.

The engines with DoD/AFM will weight slightly more than those without.

The truck engines that are iron block will weigh more than the aluminum block engines.

There are changes between the Gen 3, Gen 4, and different sets of Gen 4, which will also affect weight slightly.

For the most part, the differences shouldn't be too large though.

50lbs really isn't all that much, and going from a plastic intake to a bunch of metal on top, makes a fairly big difference.

The Eaton supercharger, LIM , pulley, Belt are not light. Probably easily add 50 lbs.

I am aware.

Do you think that the items that bolt to the engine total 160 lbs?

The next time I have a fully dressed engine out of the car, I'll weigh it.

Edit: That was a rhetorical question. Of course the ancillaries don't weigh 160 lbs.

I haven't weighed all of these components, and I don't intend to any time soon, as I have too much to do to take the time.

These are my estimates:

starter: 10 (gear reduction starter)
alt 11
p/s pump 0 (not used)
brackets 20 (engine mount and accessory mount brackets)
headers 10 each (single wall fabricated stainless steel manifolds)
intake and efi 10 (nylon manifold)
a/c compressor 22 (seems high)
water pump, 0 additional (Included with the engine on the palet)

I have my doubts that the LX9 weighs the same as the other high value motors. it should weigh in closer to the Gen III 60*V6. if I had to guess, I would say the rest of the high value engines would be a tick heavier.
