I am sure they are just jet contrails, but the vertical one does look like a missile, the high one resembles a meteor and the two intersecting lines resemble a cross.
I'm looking almost due East in these pictures. This time of year, the sun rises just a little to the right of these pictures. South is on the right--north to the left-west "behind" me. Houston's intercontinental airport (Bush) is SE about 35 miles away. In all the time I have lived here, this is only the 2nd time I have ever seen an aircraft other than general aviation come from the South East or SSE. They all come from the South over my house and go North before turning East, or come from the extreme North and travel south as you see the 2nd contrail moving. This was about 9am this morning--you can tell by the shadows the sun has not risen very high. The vertical trail appeared slowly above the far treetops, and appeared to be going straight up--a very steep angle of ascent. There are several minute between each of these shots. The vertical trail never passed over my house or crossed the sky--it just kept going what seemed like straight up. If it took off from Bush, it did so in a hurry and gained a LOT of altitude. The missile/rocket idea certainly crossed my mind, especially when the 2nd aircraft appeared from the left side of the shot. A miss!

Maybe NASA or SpaceX is doing something. I said it was a rocket because the contrail above the tree line starts out wavy and wide and then straightens out. I suppose it could be a Fighter Jet going straight up shortly after take off.
Here's where it gets even stranger. The left to right aircraft moved on off, and I lost track of the steep climbing one for a couple of minutes--the trail just vanished. Then, it re-appeared, just farther up into the sky--evidently had traveled thru a temperature inversion of some sort and the contrail wasn't visible. I watched it for a while, but it just kept climbing, never crossed the sky from the far horizon over to the sky closer to my vantage point. It just looked impossible. Finally just went out of sight. The whole sequence took about 20 minutes. The left to right trail--about 5 minutes.

The trail of clouds that billow from an airplane streaking across the sky can be mesmerizing for children and adults alike. Jet engine traffic has become so common that it's not unusual to see several lingering streaks in the afternoon. And though many consider the streaks beautiful against a bright blue sky, others are alarmed about them. Concerns range from the idea that these streaks could exacerbate global warming to more elaborate theories that the government has secretly been dumping harmful substances on the land. Before we get into the various theories about the possible harmful effects, let's discuss the scientific explanation for these streaks. Jet engines spew out very hot air. And, because water vapor is one of the byproducts of the exhaust, the air is also very humid. However, high in the atmosphere where these jets fly, the air is typically very cold -- often lower than -40 degrees Fahrenheit. Additionally, the atmosphere up there is often of low vapor pressure, or the force exerted by a gas on the surrounding environment. When a jet engine is spewing out hot, humid air into an atmosphere that is cold and has low vapor pressure, the result is condensation. The water vapor coming out of the engine quickly condenses into water droplets and then crystallizes into ice. The ice crystals are the clouds that form behind the engine. This is why the streaks are called contrails, short for "condensation trails." To help explain it, scientists liken it to seeing your breath on cold days. You may have noticed that puffs of breath dissipate quickly on dryer days. The same is true of contrails: When the atmosphere is more humid, the contrails linger, but when the atmosphere is dry, the contrails disappear more quickly. This explanation makes sense. But, as author and airline pilot Patrick Smith tells readers, the contrails consist of not just ice crystals and water vapor but also other byproducts of engine exhaust. These include carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfate particles and soot [source: Smith]. Some point out that these, in addition to the extra cloud cover, can have negative environmental effects. And conspiracy theorists have nicknamed contrails "chemtrails" under the suspicion that the government is taking advantage of this scientific phenomenon to secretly release other substances into the atmosphere.
Why is " whoever " testing missiles when the products of combustion from burning coal and fossil fuels will kill us? Can't the beings who want the planet wait? I have nothing to wear either way.

I think the rocket was much further away than the jet. The fact they look the same diameter makes it look like they're right on top of each other. Still, I wonder what the no fly zone was.

Hmm ... I would have figured Bush is south, slightly west of you. When I worked/lived in Crosby I noticed an air corridor slightly to the north for incoming air traffic from the east. I could see literally plane after plane heading towards Bush.

I thin I am on/under the departure path Cliff. They come from the south most of the time, but in the extreme west side of the sky Cliff--travelling almost due North, and once in the northern part of the sky, make a turn back eastward and move out of sight into the eastern horizon, or move across the far eastern part of the sky going back south-southeast as you see the second plane did. Aagian, I have seen only one other commercial flight come over my property from due east, and that was a very very low altitude airliner that passed directly over my property one evening late. It's so unusual, that I even posted about it here a couple years ago, and it was surmised by someone who checked flight schedules to be a maintenance test flight from Houston Bush flying at 4000' over Sam Houston National Forest on . It's the only other time I have ever seen a commercial flight traveling east to west here.
I have no doubt, that the vertical contrail in my photos was in fact an airliner or other large aircraft--it's just that it's flight path/direction, and especially altitude is very unusual for here.

Don, did you read the article accompanying the image that I had linked to? What makes that a "Chemtrail" if yours is not?
quote
New York Has a Mystery "Missile," Too!
Remember that mysterious vapor trail that appeared over L.A. on Monday? The one that set off speculation about UFOs or an enemy missile attack that nobody (not even the Pentagon) could immediately explain? Well, now New York has one too! (Of course we do.) The New York Post says a local photographer snapped a similar scene from Far Rockaway yesterday afternoon.
The photographer, Juan Rodriguez, told the Post it didn't look like the usual contrails left by planes from JFK, but that it "looked like a rocket," and appeared to be over Brooklyn or New Jersey.
On Tuesday, a news helicopter caught video of a similar image about 35 miles west of Los Angeles over the Pacific Ocean. Military organizations dismissed theories that the West Coast vapor trail was caused by a foreign missile launch but spent three days trying to track down the cause of the strange sighting. The Pentagon has since closed the case, and the official line is that it was merely a plane's condensation trail, distorted by the angle of the news chopper's videotape.
No word yet on what the cause of the Queens "missile" is, or whether authorities are investigating. In the meantime, you might want to brush up on those duck and cover skills.
One or 2 is contrail--but when they crisscross the sky or if they are a "bunch", they are chemtrails. TDA said "a bunch".. that's code for.. govt aerial sprayed mind control substances. Contrail:
The New Knighted States Goobment hasn't found a way to get enough mind control chemical out in one pass yet, so they have to go back and forth across the sky to get down a good coverage. Chemtrail:
Get with your conspiracy group's education liaison, he/she will explain it all to you.

Could it have been some sort of random space / satellite launch? There's a bunch of stuff within ~800 miles of where you live... not sure what the distance is to where the curvature of the Earth would block sight...
I would guess the other one was just a normal plane, and not related?
EDIT: Just did a Google Search and it looks like Space-X launched a satellite for India on the 4th of January?... Maybe that's it?

When we lived in Sparks, Nevada the sky always seemed unusual and fast moving to me with scud clouds a common sight. Anyhow, once saw contrails that made a near perfect tic-tac-toe pattern in the sky. All changed before I was able to get a camera but here's a poor quality photo I took after a cloud and another contrail messed up the pattern:

Every now and then, an early morning test launch out of White sands will produce quite a site in the Arizona skies, just before sunup. The uninitiated are always somewhat nonplussed.
One of the more spectacular displays was the result of a test of an anti-missile missile, in September of 2012.
The mysterious plume was illuminated by the rising sun and noticed just before 5:30 a.m. Cammie Montoya, a spokeswoman for the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, said the U.S. Army launched the missile toward White Sands. Another missile intercepted it over the White Sands Proving Grounds and that everything went as planned. She said the sunlight really accentuated the contrail.
Not my video:

Looks like a rocket / missile trail to me. Thanks to Kennedy Space Center, I've seen my fair share of them. For comparison, here's a photo I snapped of a Space Shuttle launch.
It's hard to judge without good reference to size and direction. From a distance, a rocket or missile launch will appear to go up and back down as it goes over the horizon.
For it to just go up, you'd have to be close enough that it never crosses the horizon which means it has a fairly short flight distance. Rockets don't go straight up, they go up at an angle.
It must be chemtrails!

Chemtrail
When the winds aloft are light, they don't blow the contrails away as quickly.
ATTENTION CHEMTRAILS ACTIVISTS AND ONLINE RESEARCHERS I just got booted from facebook out of nowhere. When I signed back into facebook a new screen pulled up saying my account was frozen by facebook. They stated in a lengthy contract that they had removed a photo from my page CHEMTRAIL COVER UP and that I was not allowed to use it. Facebook literally threatened me that if I used the photo again they would deactivate my account. This is the photo that was removed:

Well, that's interesting. Sure is a lot of cables connecting the boxes. Pulled over copywrite violations I would suspect.
