I just would like to know how to get rid of the smell of a rotting corpse. I have one outside my window, and has been there for at least 3 days. I just found it this morning. and would like to sleep without the smell of death everywhere in my room and garage.
I mean, I can manage, since I'm "like that" but guests would most likely be appalled.
any advice or help would be appreciated. thanks!

Ayup just how big is it? first get rid of whatever it is, bury it our move it. Maple syrup and water on the stove, boil it then turn it down because it will boil over quick. male sure you close the windows before doing that,
And again, just how big is the corps because it doesn't work for human remains.

I use compost. The worms in compost clean up the bones nicely. Otherwise, if it is a matter of evidence, fire. If you are concerned about the neighbors, pour BBQ sauce on it.

1. Remove the carcass. 2. Shovel up about 1" of the ground around the immediate area and throw it away from your personal space. 3. As Steve said, don't treat the area with anything harsh--treat it with something that will draw bugs, insects etc as well as bacteria that will process the necrotic remains in the soil. They will deal with it very very quickly. If you pour bleach or lime on it, the remains will be there and the odor will overpower the odor of the bleach. If you are going to put anything on it to disquise the odor, find some banana oil, (natural or synthetic) as it is what most people swab in their noses when they have to deal with dead animals. Spray it liberally on the affected area along with some sugar water or syrup. You can use the bleach later, to disinfect the area.
I use the banana oil when I have to work with a cow that retains afterbirth. (it rots inside her--not pleasant at all)

I had a dead possum die in my back yard. Really odd considering where I live. Horrible smell. I got rid of the corpse first, and then drenched the area with an entire gallon of bleach. No smell. No grass either.
Ive always heard its impossible to get that smell of human remains out of a car. Everything in it except the metal absorbs the smell. Unless they improved things over the years, you have to strip everything plastic and upholstery, including wiring to get it out. We had a car come in to a dealer I worked at that someone died in. They ended up junking the car.
Outdoors, like you see above there are all kinds of ways to get rid of it. All methods start with removing the body of whatever it is. After thats, just pouring a bottle of Fabreeze there may take care of it. Ive never tried it for a dead body, but I use baking soda to absorb a lot of odors.

I took a look shortly after posting this, and its a huge freaking cat, probably a nice bloated 20-25lb cat... I had to go to work right after I took a look and then it rained. and when I got home... WOO!!! SMELLY... XD
anyways, it looks like I'll spend another night smelling this dead animal waft its odor right into my room.
I'll go poke and prod at it tomorrow with a stick. and then decide what to do. It was annoying but I think I may be getting used to it. the smell of death is pretty nice taking into account how depressing my outlook of the world took recently. I'm not saying I'm depressed. but this country is going to poo.
So let me get this straight, there has been a dead bloated animals outside of your window for four days and you haven't moved it yet?
Gettting rid of the corpse would be a good start to get rid of the smell!
Based upon his previous post, stupidity seems to be his strong suit.
Do like Don says. He's got likely the most experience. I'd got with Ron's idea next. Really need to consider that you don't own the property. Steve isn't wrong. Get some insects in there.

Do you know why it's bloated ? A nauseous gaseous build up is happening inside of it's skin. You think it.stinks now. It's skin is stretched, possibly to it's limits. If you poke and prod it, and break the skin, you will know what stink is. You will also have a bigger mess to dispose of. Are you gonna poke and prod at it to see if it is still alive, ?

I was just going to say that Cliff, but let him live and learn, seems to be the only way some learn, hey its his dead body. I will say you could just call animal control. should have done that a few days ago but hey live and learn, I hope he learns. Something tells me he won't but hey I can dream can't I.

Sounds like the cat potentially had rabbies. I would suggest burrying the cat at least two feet deep to keep it from other animals.

I'm not soo much stupid, as I am trying to be comical. maybe in any case, I'd consider myself ignorant over stupid.
I don't think you are stupid at all. But I certainly would not leave it once I did find it. But then I tend to projectile vomit forcefully at the smell of death
A guy I knew had a meat delivery business. His trucks would get smelly from bits of meat that would get on the floors. He would clean the truck and then hang cotton strings in the truck and light them and let them smolder. He said it was an old trick to get rid of the smell they used. Had to be cotton string. Never tried it but always remembered him talking about it.

that's been there a while with those maggots, don't know for sure but more than a couple of days from the looks of it. throw some lime over it and it will kill the maggots and the smell.

I didn't poke it with a stick, but I tried to pick it up by one of the hind legs and all the meat and loose fur was falling off!
It was a FAT cat. the first time I saw it before I went to work it still had a shape to it. I know what bloating looks like. and it was already past that, since that was the dead smell I ended up smelling. its kind of mellowed out by now. doesn't stink that bad, I will let the maggots and whatever else get at it and finish it off before I dump any chemicals on the remains.

Want a tried and true method for masking that odor? Buy one of those giant bottles of Scope mouthwash. Take a clean bath towel and pour the entire bottle onto it so that it's fully soaked. Now lay that towel over your bathtub or kitchen sink. Your whole house will be minty fresh in no time.
We had our old tractor with a brush hog parked out back. One of our big feral cats climbed under that brush hog and died. By the time I found him he was in a similar state to the one you have there. I scooped him up with a shovel and gave him a proper burial under our oak tree. I just left it alone, it didn't take long for the smell to dissipate.
