We got ours last year anyway... It's a Samsung LED 3D with 240hz display... I would never buy another TV again... It's the 240hz fast motion that makes the difference, it's just weird to watch it's so smooth... It looks like your watching a play its that good... Highly reccomend it. I would never ever buy a 120hz TV... The LED screen is very vibrant too, more so then LCD or plasma...
I second the Samsung - we have a nice one that has the Smart Tv and all that good stuff... I no longer need an xbox or other method to get the data onto the set.
We got a good deal on it because it's a sliiighly older model, but it had all the features I wanted, the major difference was the color of the bezel...
But going from a SONY 36 inch to this one was odd, and yeah, the screen seems to "improve" a lot of older stuff, the panning/scrolling is SUPER smooth...
I rarely use it, but when I DO, it's yummy.

In my price range (well, it's $100 dollars over), i'm liking the Sharp 46" Aquos Quattron. Edge Lit LED, 1080p, 120Hz, 4ms, 4000000:1, AQUOS Net, Quad Pixel Technology.
Features:
* X-Gen LCD Panel - is designed with advanced pixel control to minimize light leakage and a wider aperture to let more light through, providing the industry's highest contrast level.
* 120Hz Fine Motion Enhanced - for improved fastmotion picture quality.
* UltraBrilliant LED system - includes a unique "doubledome" light amplifier lens and multi-fluorescents, enabling high brightness and color purity.
* Full HD 1080p (1920 x 1080) Resolution - with more than 8 million dots for the sharpest picture possible.
* Quad Pixel Technology - featuring a 4 color filter that adds yellow to the traditional RGB.
I mean, 4ms! That's computer monitor gaming right there!
I notice how the new TVs have a much thinner frame.Look for clarity or sharpness. Pixilization is a Big Factor.. Look for the block like paterns, when the channel goes to a comercial or changes frames.Check to see how quickly channels change and the picture comes in.Buy your warrenty through Square Trade (Great Company).

I went for low price. $249 for 37" RCA. I have the high dollar Samsung that went out shortly after the warranty (widespread capacitor issue on power board), and I plan on never buying another Samsung again(so far, so good).
I've been looking for a new one myself. There are some REALLY good deals on 55" TVs, but I already have one of those hanging in my bedroom.
I am looking for a 70" to put in my living room. I don't want to drop more than $2000 and I want a "SmartTV". I've had a manager at BestBuy offer me a 70" Sharp for $1799, but it wasn't Smart. I've been eyeing a Vizio for $1999, but sadly missed the $1499 Costco sale and the $1649 Sam's sale both offer 90 day return policies.
On a side note for gifts I am looking for 2 32" TVs, I'm not willing to spend more than about $150 each. I am also in need of a 42" for my guest bedroom that I am working on setting up. I'd like to buy it for $200-$250.
Boonie, don't let them fool you, I don't think the 240 is "that" much better. I've been looking at a TON of TVs and haven't noticed any ghosting or other artifacts on any of the 120Hz televisions. The 120Hz in my bedroom looks surreal at times. Buy what's in your budget and looks good to you. There will always be something nicer or someone who has nicer, but if you like it that is all that matters.
I went ahead and bought the 70". I've got 90 days to decide whether I like it or for the price to drop. I hope it arrives Friday, but I am a bit skeptical. I'm stoked.

That must me last year's model. We have a 42" Quattron that's 2 years old and we are looking to upgrade to a Quattron 3D this spring, but according to Sharp's website, as of the 2012 model year, they don't offer the Quattron in anything smaller than a 60". I love our Quattron, the lighter colors just 'POP' more with the addition of the yellow sub-pixel. I don't know if I can go back to a standard RGB pixel layout after getting used to the RGBY as all of the other TV's I've looked at seem darker and less vibrant, and even though we will be able to afford it, we don't have the wall space for a 60".

After viewing many televisions in the stores, I just settled for the HX850 from Sony. It was night and day better than other TV's in it's class, and for the money. I love the framless look and gorilla glass, it's an amazing quality set. I downgraded in size from an 83" Mitsubishi to the 55" Sony and I couldn't be happier honestly. Take a good look at them in the store, you'll fall in love I'll bet.
Still try'n to wear out that 13 inch black and white I bought used back in 63. Oh well, it is, what it is.

We went all-out and upgraded our 36" CRT to the Sharp 80" 3D. Absolutely amazing. I'm pleasantly surprised how good the 3D is. You do get some pixelling when watching TV where there is fast motion, but that is going to happen with any large LCD TV. Watching a Blue-Ray it is perfect no matter how fast the motion. The plazma TV's don't pixellate like that, but the largest size is 60" and we wanted to go big (or go home). Playing Xbox Forza on it is really someting.........almost enough to make me car-sick!

I looked at a 90" Sharp. For my 10 grand though. I think I'll buy another Fiero, another gold Desert Eagle with 50AE and 44 magnum barrels and the 70" TV I ordered. It looked nice, but I really want some more pixels soon. 1080 isn't a ton of real estate.

Ive got 3 Samsungs. So far theyve all outlasted the Panasonic, JVC, Sony, RCA I bought before...except for one, and it quit because it got hit by lightning. I dont have have any problem with them. 2 of them (32") ride around in the backs of two of my show cars so they get bounced, hot and cold all the time. Ill bet they all come down quite a bit in price in the next week. I just saw an ad for a 50" LG for under $500.

I don't like they way that looks... well at least at the 120hz level. I had to turn off some fast motion functionality in the TV to make it look more like "TV". All the shows looked like I was watching a soap opera. yuck. I will have to see if it is any better with 240hz.

I really hope the price drops on mine. It was $500 cheaper on Black Friday. I've got 90 days to return it though. I can't decide if I want to hang this or buy a media chest.

I only have 120Hz and 60Hz displays, but I'd speculate that is worse on 240Hz. A LOT of people turn off all the smoothing and stuff. I've seen them look like a damn roller coaster. Make me a bit sick to watch.

If a television screen has a refresh rate of 120Hz (120 frames per second) but the television is going to display film that was recorded at the standard 24 frames per second, the vendor must figure out a way to fill in an extra 94 frames each second.
One way to do this is to have the television repeat each film frame five times(5x24=120). Another way is to have a computer program in the television digitally analyze concurrent frames and use the data to create intermediary frames. The insertion of these frames is called interpolation and they are what cause the soap opera effect.
Many vendors allow viewers to turn off interpolation and force the television to repeat the same frame 5 times or use a more traditional 3:2 pulldown. This creates a more cinematic effect.
The commercial name given to motion interpolation depends on the vendor. Sony calls it MotionFlow, LG calls it TruMotion, Toshiba calls it ClearFrame, Mitsubishi calls it Smooth120Hz and JVC calls it Clear Motion Drive. Some vendors also refer to it as anti-judder.

Was just down at my local Best Buys and they have a TON of black friday returns and had a bunch of open box specials that were even cheaper than the Black Friday price. You might want to check your local store!

I looked at some, and can see why they were returned. Low-end, off-brand, stuff at the BestBuy here.

I guarantee lots of people 'buy' tvs for holidays like Thankgiving, Christmas, New Years, Super Bowl, etc ...just to throw a party to watch the games with full intentions of just returning them the next week or so. All they have to do is say they dont like the picture, its too small or whatever reason they make up. I have seen stores that post signs before those days that no returns are accepted for refunds. You have to get only a replacement or upgrade.

90 day return policy on the one I just bought. It came in and it is MAMMOTH. I am pretty excited. The speakers suck ass though, the reviews I read indicated they were much better. The remote is much heavier than I expected. It also doesn't appear their is an "internet" app. Just portals to internet sites like youtube and pandora. Have to get it home to check everything out. The remote is also got a sticky button I am on with support trying to get them to send me another.

Yeah the 240 was defintly weird at first, like watching a soap or play... But you get used to it and every thing seems way more "real" due to it's actually real motion, there is no lag or buffer... It's trippy but it just so real, like life haha
I had a 3D phone that didn't need glasses. I thought it was gimicky. I get nauseated at 3D movies. I've heard Sharp has passive 3D and is the best. I couldn't risk my 3k on it.
Man, I really, really want one... but I bought a Sony 51" Rear Projection TV way back in late 2003.
And it's still going strong.
I certainly don't NEED another TV, this can do 1080-HD just fine... but it is ENORMOUS in terms of size width height, etc. Takes up an entire corner of my smallish 1,400 square foot town-house I'm renting.
I see TVs of similar capability for $300+ bucks right now...
I went through the same "struggle" when I was thinking about replacing my old 19" tube monitor with the newer 25" flat-screen that I use now. I figure that when I move from this area, I'll probably get rid of it. No use in getting rid of something that works perfectly fine as it is.
