This thing was one of the first "Mountain bikes" ( a bike that wasn't a single speed 'BMX" or a "ten speed" w/ the skinny tires.) It had a drum brake in the rear, a mud guard, a little pouch to store *whatever* ...and TWO speeds.(woaaaa, TWO? ) I remember going to Toys R Us w/ my Mom, and buying it, they brought it around, and she said "meet you home later..." (that was back in the day, when you actually let your kid ride a bike by themselves for a few miles)
Anyway, what happened next was almost like a commerical. I rode the bike away from TRU, down the road and made my way up the long hill (about 5 blocks, REALLY steep). As I got to the top, I was exhausted and I bumped into a bunch of older kids on bikes (a few were riding on the rear pegs of one or two of the bikes). One of them shouted something like , "Hey kid, give us that bike!" ( during that time, it was a somewhat common thing - they would either ride a cheap POS bike and then switch it with a nicer one, or the kid on the pegs would jump on a kids bike and take off) I was like "aw crud!!!", and started pedalling for my life. I remembered that magical second gear, and pushed it down. I took off so freakin' fast, I left them in the dust! Don't think I told my mom about it, but man, that bike was so freakin' cool. I don't know what gear ratio that second gear was, but man, it was good stuff. The brake was really effective, too.
Thanks Youtube, for having that commercial...

My 18 speed Huffy mountain bike is from the mid 80s. I bet it's faster than your Murray.
Oh, yeah? Lets race! *reaches down, pulls your chain off, puts a scorpion on the top of your head and speeds off down the road*
MUHWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!
*clicks the magic "turbo" button* FUEMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Sorry to play dirty, but I just discovered why my robot thinks that 217 sometimes = 216, and now, I need a few stff drinks)
