I have verizon for my blackberry 8330. I don't know if its the phone or the service acting up. my phone fell from about 4 feet and now it has no service! My blackberry has taken way harder hits than that. I tried *228 and status then test and my rf components are in working order. I updated my towers and still have crap service. I used to be able to get 3 bars in my bedroom. Now I have the X for no service. Anyone have any ideas on what I should do? My friend has verizon and he gets service in my room. If I don't get this working I will be devastated. I'm 18 and life from my blackberry. If I do get a new phone I'm giving my used and abused blackberry a final farewell. My clay pigeon launcher and a the browning 12 gauge pump.

The RF component test probably doesn't check the antenna. (The antenna is internal.)
It's my guess that the antenna has become detached from the RF section.
This is probably a soldered connection as opposed to a plug-in connector.
Someone who knows what they're doing (like a cell phone tech) will probably be able to fix it, in short order.
(I usta fix pagers. Do not try this at home.)

Do you have insurance on it through Verizon? If so, they may swap it out for you, with a refurbed unit.
They may still do on-site repairs. I doubt it, though.

Most of the BBs I have taken apart have had a few tiny connectors for the antennae (4?). maybe it popped off. get a Torx screwdriver and open it up, so you can check under the hood.it isn't too difficlut to do... how long have you had it? if it doesn't appear phycisally damaged, they may send you a replacement one...depends on yer warranty, though.

That would be my guess.

If you were smart enough to get the supplemental insurance, use it first. Opening the unit voids not only your warranty (that won't cover abuse like dropping it) and the insurance process too (intentional tampering). If the thing doesn't look too abused, see if you can get them to do a warranty exchange first. Opening and poking around yourself should be the last thing you try to do. When I worked for the cell phone companies, we were able to fix a lot of phones, but it's tricky now, and they have multiple tamper indicators built in.

>> Let append this. If you've had the phone for at least a year, the warranty is over, but Verizon still offers discounts on equipment if you resign a contract. The Blackberry Storm seems to be outselling the G3 iPhone I understand. The insurance is as good as long as you keep up paying the premium, doesn't require you to extend the contract - you just pay a $50 deductible. In the old days you were really screwed. Pay the disconnect penalty and quit or buy a phone outright, no subsidy. The phone companies used to subsidize around $250 of equipment costs, but that has come down over time. That's why disconnect charges have fallen and even become pro-rated as the contract goes on.
