We wanted to go, but we would have had to get up way too early, and from Hy's description, it is an emotionally draining day. I guess we might have been a little selfish in our consideration of that. Plus some of your club would still like to see me arrested for something, anything, so there is that as well. I hope you had a good time, maybe next year.

Looks like you're living the life Jeff. Having a convertible in sunny California has got to be a blast. I'm even considering getting one myself, once we settle on which business we are going to invest in. My brother already bought himself a Miata to cruise around in. I'm thinking of getting myself a Saturn Sky when the time comes.

Not sure what you mean, we don't have any panel trucks in our club. That is one place where Chrysler dropped the ball compared to the HHR, I believe you can even get an HHR SS panel wagon, for a super fast floral delivery truck.
There is one around here with just a little to much chrome on it for my taste, but I could see others liking it. I keep wanting to get a pic of it, but am always forgetting my camera in the house.

That is odd, I have no problem with the headroom either in our sedan, or with the top up on the vert, 62mm lower. The top of the winshield is low, so you tend to have to accomodate that somehow, but it is one of the few cars that is big enough. I don't think they are for everybody, and the non turbo models tend to be grandma cars. But the reason I like Fieros is the same reason I like Cruisers. They are unique and do what they do pretty well for the money.

I always wanted to turn one into a surfmobile. Paint some waves. Airbrush some old surf stickers onto the body or glass. Mount a couple boards to the roof. Shave the handles you know old school station wagon at Rincon beach type stuff.
I rented one and decided against it. I didn't feel comfy in it and it wasn't a turbo model(didn't know there was one) so it was really slow.

The turbo makes all the difference, especially with the SRT Stage 1 ECU. Dynos of otherwise stock turbo cars turning 235 at the wheels and 300 # of torque at 2200 rpm are common. I haven't tested mine, but it has a Mopar open intake and 2.5" exhaust. I would so run it against your Fiero with the 3.4dohc. On the freeway it has all the urgency my L67 Fiero had but with ABS and airbags, and a back seat for my dog.
Rentals are rarely good indicators of a vehicle's entire model lineup. The chassis does need some tuning, and they can be made into a very tossable car. And it is very easy to upgrade the interiors of lesser equipped models through a niche aftermarket of enthusiasts like Mr. Mike...
My picks for collector values on these cars would be for GT models, headed up by the Dream Cruiser editions 2-4, before the 2006 redesign. The 2003 was the intro year for the GT and needs a fuel injector upgrade for Stage 1, and came with rather spartan interiors of cloth, sunroof optional, so they can be had cheaply now that they have 5 years on them. The 2004 GT was pretty much the high water mark, with GT's coming equipped with standard leather, sunroofs, and chrome 17". In spring of 04, the 05 convertible was introduced ( mine has a 2/04 build date.) to be killed off by disinterested new ownership 2 model years later after the 2007 model, it was killed along with the GT package. After the redesign it was a much different car, and one that continues to be de-contented. The so-called "Lite Turbo" in the Limited models from 04 on turn into GT+ with the $tage One computer, making them a nice way to get performance for less then the inflated GT price. By 07, though, the bulletproof Getrag availability went away with the Neon based SRT-4.

You just haven't done it yet. PT Cruisers are cheap and plentiful, and there is a much more vibrant aftermarket for such a specialized model then the Fiero market is. Hopefully, when it's twenty years down the road, the PT owners will be of the same type of enthusiasts as Fiero owners are now, Right now, PT owners can be a bit crazy, and some push the envelope on good taster, but the club events can be a lot of fun, and face it, Fiero clubs are dying out all over. Unlike the Fiero world, PT owners clubs are still treated well by the Chrysler Dealers, who grill a lot of burgers and dogs for out meetings, and donate piles of schwag.
Do you have any more pictures of what looks like a panel van conversion in a few of your pics?
Brad
Uou must mean this car...
That is a plastic insert sold by aftermarket that covers the rear window and ditches the rear wiper. The aftermarket sells panels to replace the rear doors and windows as well, but it involves more cutting and welding.

Gotta tell ya, I don't like PT Cruisers, but for some reason I like yours. It's clean, not overdone, I love it. I would love to drive it once, can I drive it?

Thanks, like I said, I'm a bit of a minimalist. less is more. I think the pieces of brightwoork would be ruined if I added anything else.
No you can't drive it. But there are lots of them in dealership used car lots, you can go whore out one of theirs with my blessing. Try to find a 5 speed turbo.

In my opinion, anyone who places stuffed dolls around their cars at a show, or anywhere else for that matter, should be immediately disqualified. Banished from the club, and all shows no matter who organized it, for at least a year. And finally, they should be urinated on by a small time local politician.
Are we car guys, or little girlie girls?

Yes, fortunately my wife is in agreement with you on that, so no danger of us picking up a faceless kid. I'd rathe hire a short homeless person to lean against my car.
So you mentioned that you got a torquoise 04. Is that the Sea Green Metallic? If so, that is a keeper. That is the most rare color for the PT, in fact, only 147 GTs were painted SGM. If you could find a SGM GT with a 5 speed, you would have a pretty rare Mopar. Some 16" smoothie wheels with wide white wall tires some red pinstripe would look very cool indeed. And turbo motor swaps are easy.

Yep, its the rare sea green metallic, with a grey interior. Plastic wheelcovers (temporarily). Plastic automatic transmission. Plastic intake manifold, plastic cylinder head for all I know. I shudder at the thought of actually having to work on this engine. But the car is great. It drives well, is nimble and keeps up with traffic just fine. Its full of little well thought out details like the multi use cargo shelf, the under seat storage bin, folding seats, mini captains chairs, even a little hook on the gas filler door to hang the gas cap while fueling! I'm thinking gold and silver for the striping. I like the wheels on your car a lot, but Chris is partial to chrome. We'll be getting chrome, no doubt.
If you can find a set of the chrome Empire wheels that I have, get them. They are the only 7" wide rim available on any years. They came on the 04 Dream Cruiser, optional on the convertible, and on the 06 Route 66 Street Cruiser. They are designed specifically for the PT, and they first were seen in 18x8 at the 2001 New York International Auto Show on the PT Cruiser Convertible Styling Concept. These will be the ultra rare ultra expensive Mopar wheels in the future.
Feel free to add pics of your favorite Cruisers.

Here is an old pic of out 2004 GT in the middle, with my mom's 2004 Dream Cruiser 3 on the right, and my dad's 2001 Limited that he bought from the BigO dealership group, it was their showcar and had a metalflake paint job on it that would suit a bass boat. He used it as a courtesy car for his Big O Tires dealership and sold it with the dealership when he retired. So we are a bit of a PT Family. I've been intrigued by them ever since the first prototype pics of 1998. When they came out, I eas a bit let down that they had not stuck closer to the Pronto Cruiser showcar design, but they are an automotive Swiss Army knife, The arrangeable seating allows you to carry a lot of stuff; I moved a 42" plasma, a washing machine, and a dryer into the back of our sedan, (separate trips, of course.) I didn't much care for the unfinished look of they grey bumpers, especially after seeing tape marks show up on every grey bumpered car. then in 2002, they restyled the front a little for the first Dream Cruiser and what would come to be the Turbo front end (even if the Dream Cruiser 1 did not have a turbom the following Dream Cruisers 2,3,and 4 came with standard High Output 2.4l Turbo engines.) The new front end features a smoother bumper and a wider lower grill to accomodate the air to air intercooler. Tha body colored paint on bumpers became the rule with 2003 models, but the smooth bumper is a dead giveaway for those hiding turbo engines that also power the SRT-4.
