Some of my switches were getting white on top of the grey. The sun does take its toll on old plastics! I have been trying to come up with a way of keeping them in better shape. I found that you could scrape the white off with a thumbnail...not optimal but just wanted to see if you could do it. This is the solution that I found works best:

First, scrub the switch down with a magic eraser. Make sure to get the sides and don't use too much water. Second, give it a good dry off with a paper towel. Third, let it dry for a couple hours. Fourth, wet down a Q-tip with some Armor All (or equivalent) and really soak the cleaned area. Do this last step (soaking the area with Armor All) every day for 4 or 5 days in a row. Then do it once in awhile to keep up the protection and to keep the plastic from drying/whiting. They look brand new!

I'm thinking the stuff they make to restore the gray/black exterior plstic on newer cars would be just the ticket for these. after a good cleaning..

Yep...I used Back to Black on the black ones and it worked great. Not sure about the grey ones. The fluid isn't tinted black so I am sure it would do the same. Give it a shot!

I have cleaned mine up and painted them with interior paint. You can in no way tell once they are back in the dash and counsel since they look like hell when bad and are not looked at when they match correctly. They are so small you cannot tell and I have done ashtray doors the same with great results. Just do not use high gloss black or gray. A semi is perfect. Rick B

I though about paint at one point, but did not want to paint over my "trunk" or "defrost" insiginas. That's why I went this route. I'll post some pics here tonight.

I bought new ones awhile back, GM originals. I don't think they're available anymore.
