I guess the question is... How can you pay somebody back for giving you a gift that you never thought you would ever see again?
My best friend stopped by my house today and told me... (with a very serious look on his face)
Friend "I have a problem!" Me "What's up, what can i do?" Friend "I have an extra car i don't know what to do with" Me "Yeah? what is it?" Friend (while handing me a title) "Your 86 GT you sold to my dad"
Me "................ (thud)"
Ok so after i regained myself for a few seconds i hugged him... Tongue tied for the first time of my life. No words came to mind that could express how i am feeling... I got my baby back!
So yeah... i cracked... i cried like a little schoolgirl... pics to come when i get her back in the driveway... Thank you for reading.
Side note: Check the mall soon. My 86 2m4 is up for sale.

Now that is a friend you should keep for life. He obviously knew what that car meant to you, and knew how much it would mean to you to have it back. If the entire human race was like that, the world would be a great place.

Very true... but how do you repay something like that?
you'll figure out in time.. but the hug and the crying was probably more then enough, just remember a real friend isntt the one who gets the call @ 3am asking for help for bail out of jail.. your in the cell with him saying "i swear she didn't look like no cop" lol

That is true... i am the first to drop everything. It's just.... Other then my son... this is the best gift i've ever received. Almost feel guilty that i couldn't express or give in return. Things like this are not normal for my life. Just don't know how to react.

The appropriate response is never doing something as stupid as selling the car again Make it matter, that's all anyone wants from someone they've given something to.

My original intent when i bought it the first time was to fix it up and do my best to keep it running for my son. The title on the car was "Merrick's matchbox" I used to have a sig for it too. Then long story short... i got screwed by my parents and had no choice but to sell it to keep a roof over our heads. Of course i didn't want to but... had no choice. The person i sold it to i made a "handshake" agreement to. That i would be able to buy it back within one year only for the price he paid + reimbursement for anything he did to it. Before the end of that year i tried with double what he paid.... He said "He** NO! screw off". I know he recently hit financial troubles and of course i couldn't afford it... and here i stand. Feels like a dream.

I couldn't be so lucky. I am trying to restore an 88 notchback to replace the 87 I had 15 years ago and had to let go due to financial issues. I've dropped so much into it and I still can't get it on the road. Now I see the car I've always dreamed of (88 formula yellow with T-Tops) and I could've had it for all the dough I've put into the project...
If only I could have my original car back...If only...
You don't know how lucky you are!

That's what makes what he did so special and makes him as a friend and person, very special.
I will say a prayer for him and pray that more people become like him.
You are a very fortunate person to have a friend like that.

You are now a real man, because you were not afraid to show your emotions! But think about this, Your friend could've ask yo to buy it for $100 just to get something back and he choose not to. Why? The greatest man on that ever touched this earth said that "there is more joy when you give than when you receive". If he would've asked you for $100 you wouldn't reacted the way you did and there wouldn't be any satisfaction on that. Think about the satisfaction that your friend felt when he saw your reaction! I can guarantee you that he is happier than you right now. Try that sometime, it feels real good. It's like trying to get paid for something you really love doing, when that happens it is just another job, a don't care how anybody puts it. Congratulations to you on getting your car back!

Thank you. I know that feeling cause i do it all the time with everybody i know. Every time i can, i do things for others just because... i can. Your right it is very satisfying to see a friend extremely happy. I'm just not used to it... it's odd being on the other side of the fence. But now i understand why some people have a hard time taking no for an answer when they try to pay you for being nice. I'm right there... right now... just at a loss.
So this is how she sat today...
Edit: side note... i did know he was trying and told him i would sell mine to pay it off... never thought it would ever happen. He is of course trying to just give it to me but that won't happen... i won't let it happen.

Congrats on having a good friend and your first Fiero back!
I have to look at my first Fiero everyday - even though I do not own it - it belongs to a good friend. I could own it again but I do not need another Fiero right now. I am trying to sell it for him. Hmmm.... I guess if I were a "great" friend, I'd buy it from him!
When I first got it:
After I spent a lot of blood sweat and tears on it:
yeah you gotta love the first ones.. lol.. Lucky me i kept my first Fiero, and still drive it to this day.. It was my first car as well, got it when i turned 16, and now 17 years later, im still driving it.. And still love it. Even more now than i ever did (probably because of all the upgrades iv done recently, and being excited about the upgrades im going to do to it in the next few months)...
My fiero wasent the first one in my life though.. My dad bought a brand new 86 2M4 when i was a kid.. Black, really nice, was suppost to become my car when i got older, but they sold it because we moved and needed a bigger car.. But thats ok cause i like my SE with the V6 better.. But i still wish i had the little black 2M4 just to have it.

Great story! I like the way that you are going about it. I am sure that you are a good friend, and feel confident you will "do right" with the situation. Makes me feel even better about being your ratings bar giver. He, he, he.

Thanks again for that. Was starting to wonder when that was going to happen. So the update is, Overtime check was short so i gotta wait two weeks to get it on the road. Darn DMV with the insane registration prices!!!! if spitzer never needed whores like air, NY wouldn't be so horrible! Ty Patterson for screwing it up! I'll post pics when i fan finally get her back.

Well here's one pic as i was about to drive it away. Could really get anymore pics right now. Maybe i'll use a flash and try to get some night shots. If not then.... it'll have to wait till i get home tomorrow.
Some things i need to change though.
Steering wheel changed to a grant GT wheel and the guy put in a short shifter. Going to get 86'ed!
It's funny that i prefer stock equipment.

I hear you. In the last 4 years ive been behind the wheel of a vehicle ive seen the price jump 20 bucks to a yearly 83 dollar registration fee. Mind you that is WITHOUT an inspection (not required here) Where is the money going? I asked the clerk at the DMV last i was there and they claim its going to the roads and highways- I call BS on that as the roads around here are deplorable. Down the road from me the road jumps downward nearly 5 inches 5 INCHES!!!!! yet on the other side of the road (passenger side) its almost level. Further down the road is a highway that they have torn up about 5 times in as many years supposedly "fixing" the sewer and water mains but i actually have pictures of crews at the same intersection each year doing what appears to be the same thing.

Exactly... Welcome to NY. where EVERYTHING costs more.
So if anybody local wants a grant GT wheel with adapter and a short throw shifter... I want a stock GT wheel and stock shifter. Come on down for a swap out!

Ok... got some pics. As i was posting a bunch for somebody else i got to thinking... "What is taking me so long?" Well... here they are, she needs a bath though. Can't wait for spring and paint!
She needs a good cleaning and some new paint. Slight idle problem that she didn't have before but i'll figure it out in due time. Eventually i'll swap out the grant wheel for a GT wheel again.
