What is the HP loss in the Fiero drivetrain from flywheel to rear wheels?
Is it the same for all trannies?

15 to 25% for a stick , depends on tolerences, ware ect
a direct drive 1 to 1 should lose the least in the trans bit
but you still have the diff gears and wheel bearings ect

little stuff like a draging brake or sliping clutch can hurt a lot too
auto's are a lot worse, with pumps, chains, and more slip

Question wonder and be wierd
are you kind?

A manual transaxle with the V-6 has about 12-15% loss and the auto transaxle has about 17-20% loss.
Condition of the trans does have an effect as well.

Sometime ago I did a more scientific calculation with real dyno data as follows (no tranny specified so I guess is a mix).

I went to this site(http://www.etrackmasters.com/modules.php?name=Dyno_Charts) and took average HP #s for 2.8 and 3.4 engines and calculated drive-train losses using stock HP numbers for those engines (2.8: 138hp/165tq, I used 138 instead of 135 or 140) (3.4: 160hp/200tq). Dividing rear wheel HP by those gave me almost identical losses for HP and TQ as shown below which was expected. You can use these to estimate your engines crank output;

Engine-----HP------------TQ
2.8---------109.5---------144.8 Average HP/TQ

--------------0.79---------0.87 RWHP-TQ/Engine #s (Ex: 109.5/138)
--------------0.21---------0.12 Calculated loss (RWHP/Spec HP, using 138HP & 165TQ)

Engine-----HP------------TQ
3.4---------127.5--------175.3 Average HP/TQ

-------------0.796---------0.87 rwhp/Spec-tq
-------------0.20---------0.12 Calculated loss (RWHP/Spec HP, using 160HP & 200TQ)

Thanks for the data alex4mula. Kind of what I expected. I was thinking that it was going to be somewhere between 20-25% loss.
Cheers
Bob
