And after reviewing the Daytona photos, someone has obviously beaten me to it! (doh! ) Now I'd like to find out who owns this car... and how I might be able to contact them (I want more info!). Can anyone help?
Minn, I was wondering the same thing, I don't really care if it's functional or not, I love the look of it! I remembered your thread about 'em when I saw the pic too. I brought it up in this thread: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/015988.html It would seem the guy just joined the forum under the name Brianred87, and I basically asked the same question you just did, I wanna know too!
Thanks to all for responding... Especially Sherah- thanks for the bigger pics! I just emailed Brian some specific questtions as well (to the yahoo.com address in his profile).
Thanks again!

Maybe I'm crazy, but were you on the 7:30pm Delta flight from Jacksonville to Atlanta on Sunday night? Sure looked like you...
I was on that flight on my way back to Pittburgh from the Daytona show (caught a later flight from Atlanta to Pgh. but only had a 25 minute layover). I didn't notice you (if it was you) until after we were unboarding the plane and you headed off in a different direction from the gate I had to get to, plus I thought that screaming "HEY BRIAN'S GIRLFRIEND!" (I can never remember the names of new people I meet at first) across a crowded airport might have not been a smooth thing to do if it wasn't who I thought it was.

Although the scoop is non-functional, I think it looks great! That is more attactive to me than having some flip up thing on your decklid! I am not a fan of the indy scoop.
------------------ '87GT 3" Drop, 17" Primax 618s/Nitto450 205/40, 4" Monza exhaust, Mudstain decklid scoop, 7" wing stands, Kid Danger air dam, Clear front and rear lights, custom interior, all optioned. '91 Beretta GT: Gets through the winters.
If you read the thread I mentioned in the 1st post (from a long time ago...) it addresses the issue of functionality. The design of a roof scoop originates on GT/Rally Cars- not "ricers". And they are actually used to ventilate the interior (do you know how much weight your A/C systems adds to the total weight of the car?). Anyway- I was trying to come up with a good way to route the air, but decided that getting it to the engine is somewhat unreasonable... whereas getting it inside the car would be simple (sealable vents). I do have some concerns about wind noise though... that's why I wanted to contact Brian and quiz him on some of these issues!

move it back a little and try to put one of those square mini sunroofs under it? guess you couldnt mold it in though.
but say, you start with a plain roof section and one of those mini sunroofs. then look for a vent that can be trimmed to the size of the window. then cut some lexan or plexiglass to the shape of the sunroof glass with a squre hole in it and glass the scoop to it. then in bad weather you use the glass that came with the sunroof and the scoop when the weather allows it.
ok... just thought of that when i saw this thread but i guess you could do the same thing with a sunroof car. maybe try it with an extra sunroof glass or whatever cut to that shape.

Phil... click on the link in the 1st post- someone was working on that idea as well. I may consider that some more... just thinking right now. Thanks for your input!

That's my brother's car...and unlike some people who halfa$$ things, the scoop won't be flying off. If the car was race, then it could possibly be functional to help vent some air into the car or into the deck lid. BUT since it's not a race car, it has functional windows to let air in and not hanging down the car to block his rear view.

Yeah!! That was me! That's cool that you recognized me, I don't think I saw you. Do you have Chris Moore's email address?

okokok, I am on now so fire away. The scoop is cosmetic, and yes it has a air outlet in the rear. The scoop goes across both sections of the roof and I left a seam all the way up to the scoop. It is the same scoop that was on the green eclipse. Hey ken, you should have said something at the airport. I was there too. if anymore question just ask. one more thing. I love you sherah.
Anyway- Brian, thanks for the response. Do you have any other pics of it- from the back/top showing the outlet? Also- where did you get it from? I was scoping one out at http://www.wholesalehyperformance.com
And Welcome to the Forum!

Thanks for the welcome, I got the scoop from a performance shop here in Jacksonville. One of the photos that someone else took in the forum shows the back of the scoop. It's the same scoop you are looking at with that performance web site you have.

One more question... what level of wind noise does it create? I'm guessing not much- due to the good aerodynamics of the part, as well as an air exit location. I'll see if I can find the rear shot you mentioned... thanks again!
Edit... you bet- Be right there

Just a quick "thanks" to Brian & Sherah for taking the time to say hi and answer some questions for me over in Live chat. I hope you two can make it up to one of the shows/gatherings up in this area! And if you're ever in the Minneapolis area... let me know!
Thanks!

I was going to start a thread just like this one last night, but my internet provider was having some problems. Thanks Sherah and Brianred87 for the info, and welcome to the forum!
I'm in the same boat as most of you... and I definately think that the scoop looks right at home on a Fiero, functional or not. It just LOOKS great!
I was thinking about tweaking my sig a bit, here's the big pic:
...It's not a perfectly done roof scoop, but I did it quickly just for the sig. You get the idea... =)
Cheers!

Sherah- if you have the photos scanned, you can email them to me at rob@xtralite.com . That'd be great. Thanks!
As to the show schedule... the three I had mentioned before are these:
Dells Run 2002- Wisconsin Dells, WI May 30-June 2nd. Host: Chula Vista Resort (This one is probably the best...)
FOCOA Nationals- Osage Beach, Missouri August 1-4. Host: Inn at Grand Glaize
Fierorama 2002- Suburb outside Chicago, September 8 (not sure on details on this one yet).
There are a lot of others, but these are the larger ones that I'm planning on attending... I gotta try to make it to Daytona next year!

i remember archie saying he dose something called vaccume forming lexan for his chop top side windows. if some one could do that with a lexan sunroof then you'd have a see through one or sand and paint it.
or something similar to the old trans ams. remember when they closed the opening on the shaker scoop and people cut them open but made a face plate to seal it up when they needed to.
ideas are flowing now. i like it but i need to make it good for something. i have potentialy funtional indy scoops on my coupe and chopper and i think i'd like this on my gt.

ok, last one (for the moment). for a sunroof car, find an extra glass (or tape up yours really good if you want to risk it) and mold the scoop on. glass all the way out to the edges of the glass so it has the same shape and curvature. thick enough to work alone. then drill hole in the same spot as the glass has for stock sunroof hard ware. that way you could interchange it with your sunroof.
maybe even one step further (but again thought of this part while typing the first paragraph so it needs more thought), use a cowl induction type hood scoop to give you more front trunk height and you could carry it in the sunroof storage spot ready to change as weather allows. someone who knows their tricks could maybe make it able to vent the radiator at the same time.
edited 'cause i looked at the pic again and maybe it would sit under the lid without raising it. anyone know or have an educated guess at how much space there is bettween the glass when it's under the lid and the lid bottom? or anyone ever tried to put their glass in the holder upside down? if that's possible and it cleared the spare then the lid could remain stock.
yep, imma virtual cesspool of weird ideas.

So has anyone found the shot from behind the scoop? I would really like to see how it is vented in the back. So there is no wind noise with the vent then?
