Hi everyone, I need help on this project. How do I remove the rear window in my 1986 fiero gt? (not the sail panel windows). Ive done just about everything else mechanical over the years but have never removed a rear window like this one before. Your details & suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

You have to remove the entire fastback clip to get it out, then it is held in by that black tar like the windshield. Not an easy job ! Search for fastback swap threads for step by step removing the rear clip.

Fastback clip can stay on. Remove the interior trim(b pillar, carpet behind seats, etc), black trim pieces that are on back side of sail panels, and remove deck lid, you can then use knives, razors and window removal wire to cut the black urethane glue holding the window in. There are a few threads on the forum about removing. I just did it this winter, to install lexan window and roll bar. Took about 3 or 4 hours to get it out, after the interior trim was all out. Not a fun job, but mostly just patience so you don't break the glass.

I had the rubber seal replaced on my rear windshield. So no to bust my rear windshield (the seal was rock solid hard), I paid a local automotive window place to remove it. Over the phone the lady said the entire glass would have to come out. When the repair guy arrived he looked at the car & asked me how hard it would be to find a replacement rear windshield. He said it would shatter before he ever removed it.

Once he saw what the job was, he had the seal removed & replaced in about 20 minutes.

Owww! Big job - but luckily the Service Manuals have a BODY SECTION to help you with this.

I did mine as LFiero67 said. And the sealant is painfully gooy stuff. But I got it out without breaking.
I used some old butcher knives from the goodwell that I ground sharp hooks on the end to scrap and pull to cut through the stuff.
Probably took a good 3 hours and sore hands. .

Thanks for the info, diagram, and tips, greatly appreciated! It figures that they'd use a hammer and vacume in the great up north!
