I was wondering how much (On average) Primer, paint (color) and clear coat it takes to repaint a fiero.
If you had a shop do it, or did it yourself I am just looking for rough amounts, I am looking to order paint for my car and I just wanted to see what the cost might be looking like.

Thanks!!

You will need about a litre of primer and about same if flat paint and about 1/2 litre of clear and about 5 litres of thinners. But you will likely buy 2x that.

And check the prices. It's often cheaper to just buy a gallon. I originally bought 2 quarts of base and since it was going to be a weekend I would not be able to get more so I got 3 qts. 1 gallon would have been cheaper then 3 qts. As it turned out I used it all since I went mono color on the complete car and changed the car color.

Depends, are you going to prime the whole car ? going to be Solid color, Metalic, Candy Apple Transparent ? how DEEP do you want the Clear to look ? average, 1/2 gallon primer w/ Catalyst, 2-3 Qts Base w/ hardener ( you DO Want the hardener for the base), Full gallon clear w/ catalyst. Nothing more anoying than running out in the middle of the job.

Isn't a flex agent needed as well, so the paint doesn't crack when the door/bumper flexes?

Could somebody explain the "deep clear" part to me a bit better? I didn't know there was a difference in how thick the clear is, just how well it's color sanded to get the "wet look".

To add to his question, what quantity of body filler/repair etc. do you usually budget to repair standard wear and tear on a Fiero during prep?
How do the quantities change for Metallic, Kandy, etc.?
Color change, dark to light, light to dark, choice of paint color etc.
(just rough guidelines will be okay, I fully understand YMMV. )

Don't forget cost. I recently priced out paint here and was quoted over the counter $350/gal base for economy (canadian funds...so around $341 US.) and $600/gal for premium quality base. The guy had some setup that would act as a single stage enamel for around $250. What are the prices like where you guys buy paint?

Depends on a lot of whats already mentioned. Type of gun, experience, specific color, etc.

Normally 2 base color coats are more than enough. I NEVER put on more than 2 or 3 coats of clear. 2 on a car thats paint and deliver, 3 on one thats going to be color sanded and buffed. Anymore does nothing but make it more likely to chip or crack. You only see and feel the last coat, so a 10 clearcoat job is not going to look any better than one with 2 coats. It is also not nearly as durable. Flex agent is useless except for bumper covers that have been taken off to paint. It evaporates within a few weeks so why put it in. It was invented for hard laquer in the 60s. Basecoat/clearcoat finishes now are more flexible than old paints were with flex in it. The only time I used flex in the last 30 years is to paint soft interior panels like door panels and armrests.

I just bought a 76 Mercedes SL that needs paint. Im painting it the same color of red. Im only primering some minor repair areas so only used a pint. I bought one quart of the red base color and a quart of clear. It will be my summer show car. I do use an Acuspray HVLP gun that makes about the same amount of overspray as a buzz can. It will get 2 color coats and 3 clear, wet sanded and buffed.
