What is the stock spark plug gap for a 2.8 V6? I have read that a higher voltage ignition coil requires a slightly larger gap on the plugs, is this true?

Stock gap is 0.045". With higher output coils you can go with a slightly larger gap, at the risk of quickly finding out that the insulation on your wires isn't up to snuff. Just remember the primary purpose of the aftermarket coils is to improve spark quality at higher RPM. You should keep the sparkplug gap at the stock width IMO.

My bad, I should have added that the wires are STI high performance wires and the cap and rotor are MSD as well as the ignition coil.

with a MSD coil & Accell wires, I gapped at 0.060"
which is also the gap for the 4-cyl Fiero which uses the same plugs
there is no harm in leaving the gap at 0.045"
but, the larger the gap - the faster the burn - but - I expect this is barely quantifiable
and, may even mean a timing adjustment - allowing for more advance

Would an improper gap (too large) result in a stutter? I'm also rechecking my plugs today...

*edit*

Yes, yes it can!
