I'm a little unclear about one little part. When swapping in the new transmission, would I need to change the shifter assembly at all? What all is involved in that?

Do I need to get a new one? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you need to change shift assemblies... Check The Cave to be sure.

The stock shifter will work, you can modify it if needed to reach 1st gear. You may need to mod the cable bracket on the trans end.

As stated by Mike the stock shifter will work fine, have to modify the shift lever/cable bracket on the trans, built pass side axle and make/buy the correct mounts.

Stock ecm can not handle the electronic trannys( 4t60e, 4t65 ), but a 4t60( 440t4 ) can be used. Search for "4t60 install".
