I ran into the same problem and after replacing bout everything I reset the timing for about the 3rd time...still ran bad but for the heck of it I disconnected the battery to reset the computer and it fixed the problem..It was also not showing codes but must have been locked in bypass mode...

We did disconnect the battery when working on swapping the coil packs and it did run better for a few days after that, but it's back to the same as it was before that. I can't imagine it's the computer, but it's worth a shot since we haven't checked the fuel pressure yet...

You cant set the timing on a DIS tech 4. I would get a GM crank sensor, a GM egr. Did you check the mounting plate for the module? Check the orges cave. Also if you have an 87 DIS, all the other years are not the same and though others experience on their 84-86 4 may sound the same, their system is different. Did you by standard plugs like the orge suggests? When it comes to this kind of stuff I all ways buy GM, because I only want to have to do this once. Is your friend running a 198 thermostat? How about a new fuel filter? Loose battery cable?

Steve- you quoted bigals comment here- I made no remarks about the timing so I can't speak to pre '87 cars with distributors. That being said, I used standard plugs and wires- delco plugs and bosch wires I believe. Battery cables all seem good. Fuel filter is new as of when we he first bought the car and did plugs first time around (symptom never went away except for the short time after swapping the coil pack)...
