I have already made a conversion of a 350 SBC. I used a set of block hugger headers and modified the one side to clear the passenger side axle shaft. I see there are quite alot of people who have done other conversions, so I'm hoping I could get some insight as to using fuller length headers/ exhaust . As of now I had a crappy muffler shop mock up and make my exhaust. One side is about 3 feet long, and the other is about 6ft long. The shop required catalytic converters, which made no room for mufflers! So yea not a good tuned combo. It sounds beefy, but too loud. I was trying to make it a sleeper car, not a ticket getter.

I was thinking of doing like a Y-pipe setup, with a single inlet dual outlet muffler.

If anyone has any input as to headers used, or even pictures of exhaust systems, that would be great.

I will search the forum in the mean time.

Thanks for your help.

I used the headers that are available through Archie (I also used an Archie kit for the instal). They are "Sanderson Street Rod Headers". Here's a pic:
This images is larger than 102400 bytes. Click to view.

Also, here is a picture of my exhaust. It is 2 1/2" off of the headers, to 3" single exhaust. 3" high flow cat. converter, and 3" inlet and dual 2 1/2" outlet Camaro/Firebird style Flowmaster muffler.

***I have to mention that I removed the lower section of my trunk so I would have more room to run pipes and mufflers.***
***I also have to mention that its still loud! Might not be alot of help, but maybe you could have a system built with smaller pipes, or a bigger cat. converter (to dampen sound), or maybe a muffler thats not as loud as a Flowmaster***

Hope this is some help!

Thanks for the pics! i really enjoy seeing everyone else's version/setup for their v-8 cars.

I'm really just looking for new ideas for a new custom exhaust. Mine has no mufflers, so it has to be louder than most.

Anyone else willing to share some V-8 exhaust/header pics?

I don't have a good picture of my setup, so I'm using photo supplied by Chris above to illustrate my setup.

Area 1 should contain a high quality 3 inch flex pipe, this will prevent high stress loads on headers when the heat up, or cool down (saves the welds on thin wall headers).

Area 2 should contain a mandrel bend rearward sweep into the 3 inch collector, sweep should be maximum as possible before the turn. This way the exhaust from the rear back will flow better and also not imped exhaust from the front back.

Area 3 (mine's non converter) so flip the muffler 180 degrees so inlet is on the bottom right, outputs at top right and left.

My Flowmaster is heavily modified, mid body was cut, dished in, re-welded with plate, so that it could be packaged without cutting the trunk or cradle.

Here is my exhaust setup. 2 1/2" pipes off the manifolds, 3" single inlet, dual 2 1/2" outlet camaro muffler. Notice the raised rear crossmember allowing the muffler to lay flat vs at an angle (and no mods to trunk). Manifolds are Speedway motors cast stainless Tru-Rams.

It is far from stealthy...

Here is the old dual setup I used:

Manifold Options:
Sanderson Headers like above.
RamHorns from mid 60's/70's.
Two DS maifolds from Camaro/Caprice LT-1's:

Speedway Motors Tru-Ram maifolds:

81 Corvette OEM stainless headers (air lines and head shields removed):

PaceSetter mid 90's LT-1 Corvette headers (on Left, Tru-Rams on right):

Jegs sells a Patriot Stainless Steel header similar to the Sandersons (I will see if I can get a pic)

Then you could always go custom....
