ok I only notice it when I really hammer on the car.. any possible leads? going to double check the fuel filter, but good lord it's stronger then hell! I have noticed the tips on my exhaust were a wee bit black. I know darth set the chip to run a little rich, don't think that'd cause the smell though.

just looking for possible leads

You might want to check your gas tank cap and evaporator canaster for creating a vacume or a over purge condition flooding out the canaster. good luck and keep us posted on what you find.

Definately sounds like a fuel leak, possibly a pin hole in a ruber fuel line or leaking on top of the engine block (keep looking for leaking or driping fuel).Only other posibility that I could think of is a leaking fuel pressure regulator, this would usualley cause a backfire).

Possible a cyl is missing when the engine shifts. Might look for a plug wire shorting to ground.

Do you smell it after you stop? In the engine bay or from exhaust?

Check the fuel rails and connecting hoses for leaks. Even a very small seep will give off a very strong gas odor.

I tend to smell it right after I just really get onto it.. I just get overwhelmed by it

thanks guys, I'll have to check it out tomorrow. The gas cap is newer one, could always trade my bonnie for it and see what happens. I'll post back on what I find

black tail pipes + mail order tune + heavily modded motor = bad. You need some live tuning on this car, or at least some mail order tunes based of quantitive data.

I really doubt any tune would cause a raw gas smell that;s overpowering in a moving car. I would look at a leak in the tank area, check the fill and vent hose fittings, the filler neck tube is known to rust out, and I know with that swap you had the tank out for a new pump, the top tank seal is also a possibility, but I'm thinking the fill system, when you get on it all the gas runs to the back and can slosh up the fill tube...

LoW_KeY? Did you find the problem. I just changed my tank and still have the raw gas smell when taking of from a stop hard.
I looked up at the filler/vent tubes and can't see anything wet.
Thanks
