Are you talking about the whole car or just the rear clip? I use roughly 2 quarts of base color for the entire car, less than a pint for the clip. That's using PPG Deltron.

Well, then depending on color, 2 quarts of base color and a quart of clear, plus all the necessary chemicals ( reducers and thinners ) to go with it.

How many layers does one quart give? Lets say I wanted 3 layers of clear over black paint. Would I need 3 quarts of clear?

I only spray 2 coats of clear on my paint jobs because the clear is so thick. There are other clears that PPG has that will handle 3 coats, but I have fantastic results with the stuff I'm using now that I'd never switch back. You only need 1 quart of clear for the car, unless you dump it on the garage floor. That stuff you can't reuse. Don't ask how I know that.

DCU 2042 is the urethane clear. Rumor has it that this clear formula was originally designed by a House of Color guy that came to work for PPG. I used to use DAU 82/DAU 2 and switched to this stuff.

Archie's GT40 and blue Fino, MinnGreenGT's car, and GMGW3's white chop top are all done with the DCU 2042, along with my Suburban.

All 4 of those are my sig, except my Suburban.
