I've done a few high speed runs with my fiero and at about 120mph my drivers side headlight will pop up. The headlight door doesn't seem to go all the way down anymore, like its bent up slightly when the lights are down. Has anybody fixed something like this before? I do have another hood, is it worth just swapping out the spring assemblies?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Mine had something like that wrong with it. My problem is that there are small cracks in the structure on the underbelly of the headlight cover. Might want to check that out.

I didn't notice any cracks, but it will go down when I press on it. It just springs up 1/4" when I take pressure off of it like it has been bent..???

If you look on the underside, going sideways, there's 4 bolts with big washers under them.

Loosen them all off, position the door, then carefully tighten the bolts.

Does this happen when the hood is closed and open or just closed? Open the hood and see if the door closes to where it should, if it doesnt , Id follow the above instructions. If it closes fine when the hood is up, then you may want to make sure the the headlight assembly is tight. What I found out on mine...if any screws are loose in the bezel that covers the headlight...the bezel will stick out just enough to stop the door from closing. and if the lower mounts are not tight , it could jar the light assembly up enough to stop the light door from going down all the way. Oh, and you may want to also check to make sure the wiring harness below that light is still connected to where it should be, if it is routed different it will sit right under the headlight assembly...also causing it to stay up alittle. Good luck. John

I'm really curious about this....

While I will admit, I haven't done over 100 miles an hour in any car in quite a few years.. I used to frequently peg the speedo in my Fiero (any of them). In my 87 SE / V6 with the 3.33:1, I would often go what I guess seemed like ~125mph. The speedo would be pegged at the needle (which sits about 5mph past the 120 mark).

I have yet to own a Fiero where the headlights will actually pop up. But I have known several people that have had this problem. One guy I knew a few years ago that had a black 88 Fiero GT automatic, and his headlight doors would pop up.

Why would his car do this, and not mine? I've never owned a fastback. I've only seen this happen to fastbacks. Is it something with the fastback or just co-incidence?
