Has anyone had any experience using the B&M synthetic trick shift fluid? The synthetic version says meets Dex III specs whereas the non-synthetic is Type F approved. Will it be harmful or beneficial to the trans as far as wear and tear? I searched the archives and B&M seems to get good marks, but wanted some more opinions on the synthetic version before I spend $8 a quart.

havent tryed B&M, but i had a 97 turbo eclipse that i put in Mobil 1 ATF, and it made a noticable differance in the tranny, and the mobile 1 is only $5/Qt.

Another thought, since the non-synthetic trick shift is Type F approved I can see why it would "stiffen up" the shift but IMO could hurt the longevity of the transmission. The syntheic trick shift fluid is Dex III approved, would it still give the same stiff shift. Any remarks?

I use it. It absolutely firmed up the shift points. I like it.

installing off the shelf Dexron 3 is fairly cheap and will help.

All of it depends how much new fluid you get into the thing. The most I've ever been able to get in w/o some screwball fluid wasting flush is 6.5-7 of 9 quarts. (Using method in my cave.)

it also depends how bad the tranny is. If the thing has significant problems, the best any new oil will do is delay a complete rebuild a bit.

every trans builder I have talked to about B&M Trick Shift says it is junk and is like dumping sand into your transmission. I am sure they were talking about the older stuff as I have not hit on that subject for quite some time. Therefore, I could not tell you how good or bad the new stuff from B&M is.

Persoanlly, I run 50% Valvoline Durablend DexIII/MerV & 50% CATERPILLAR 8T9572-30w Hydraulic Trans fluid in all of my GM automatics. Firmer shifts than reg DexIII and the CAT hyd fluid is supposed to lubricate the trans better thus extending its life. We shall see.
