if you take off the plastic piece that surrounds your cigarette lighter on your center console you will see a plug. I thought it might be extra electrical outlets? Could i wire some stuff into that for power or not. If i can't what is this?

It's the OBD-I connector. Diagnostic trouble codes and such.

It's also know as the ALDL (Assembly Line Diagnostic Link). It was primarily intended for use during assembly for checkout purposes, but is also used to retrieve diagnostic codes that are set when the "Check Engine" light comes on.

It is muy importante (Spanish lingo) if you are going to time an '84-'86 Iron Duke as you have to ground the lower right hand (passenger side) two plugs together with a paper clip in order to isolate the computer and be able to time the motor... among other things.

I found it helpful to remove the cigarette lighter and replace it with a momentary ON switch wired to the two terminals. Now when I want to read my CHECK ENGINE codes, all I need to do, is press the button and hold til I get the readout.

Does anyone know how you can splice into power to power neons or whatever with a switch in the ash tray or some other place?
