Well, tomorrow I am starting workon the car to figure out the shifting problem. It's an 87GT. Anyway, I decided to do a couple of drives around the block before I go out on main streets. Lucky me the car had no shifting problems, but oddly, a second after I started it, the tach died.

I turned the key, put in gear, the console flashed and the tach was dead. It had been bouncing around before that. The car runs fine otherwise (except for needing the clutch bled), and all other guages and what not work. Any ideas on what happened? Anyone have it happen to them?

Check connector at distrubtor. Also could be fuse or tach filter. Never heard of the actual tachometer going bad but it can happen

Tach Filter...never heard of those. The previous owner thinks that's probably what it is though.

I will check the distributor and fuses, as well.
