My steering wheel is crooked! When I'm going straight, it has to be turned to the left, or I'll go off the road. What do I have to adjust to make it line up correctly with the wheels?

If I remember correctly, you can't change the position of the steering wheel because the little plastic pin that the horn wire comes through wont line up but one place.

The proper procedure would be to set your steering wheel straight and adjust the two tie rods on the front until the wheels point straight ahead. (or they have the correct toe-out that you desire)

If it was correct before, and someone aligned the car, they did not align it correctly.

Hope this helps ya.

sharks rite. You cant move it because of the horn connector. If your horn dont work anyway, you could do that. Correct way is to adjust the tie rod ends or get an alignment. You loosen locks on each end and turn one in a half turn and opposite out a half turn untill it lines up. If its farther off, you went the wrong way.

Dude, your getting an alignment!

Just be sure to tell them the wheel is off or they may try to give you a quickie alignment and not even worry about it. Not only will it fix the wheel, it will take care of any other settings that could be off with your suspension. Pulling the wheel off will not work as has been explained already.

They are right - it is an alignment (tie rod) issue. Technically the reason the steering wheel cannot be repositioned is not necessarily because of the horn contact (it will move 360 degrees around the column) but rather due to the fact that the wheel hub and the retainer plate are both keyed to the steering column and have to fit in one position only.

and if that steering wheel isn't perfectly straight after a day of driving (after the alignment job) take it back to them. I had to take my car back to a tires plus 4 times to get them to set it correctly. Damn the 88 alignment!

Body shops will usually do allignments for less money than the chain car repair stores like Midas or Jiffy Lube. They will probably do a better job too because they care about their reputations.
