Ok, I am going to be replacing the TCC Solenoid this weekend. Now, my question is which pan/cover do I pull of the tranny.

I don't believe it is the fluid pan on the bottom of the tranny, rather it is the side cover on the tranny next to the left rear side wheel well.

This is an 87 4-cyl auto, so it look like I am needing to remove the trans mount bracket to get to the tranny cover. But once in the tranny what do I do? I have never done this before.

My dad had an 89 cavalier on which needed this tcc solenoid replacement, and he said it was on the outside of the tranny, I hear/read differently for the fiero. Is this correct.

Anyone done this? I sure someone has.

Here is a site with a decent description of how to do this repair. It even has pictures that show you where the stuff is. Unfortunately, it is for the V6. But you should be able to tell what you need to do by comparing the pics to your car.

I've done this on my car, and it's not too bad. There are some awkward places to get to, but the work is not that hard.

Good luck!

Yup tis behind the side cover of the trans I just got done doing 2 of them 1 on my 93 Corsica (same trans) and another on my Fiero. paid about 40 bucks for the switch and 2 gallons of fluid each (about 1 and 2/3 gal used each). I had to remove the wheel and splash cover to get at all the bolts. THERE IS A TORX SCREW!!! inside that holds the switch in place. Don't end up like me and have to run to the store and get it. Also worht noting the switch may be a universal type with mounting lugs on both sides. just cut the one side off. Replace the filter while your at it.

Oh and the 88 and I think 87 model is different it was like my Corsica and had the trans mount bracket that went around the side cover. I had to (support then) remove the bracket and jack the engine up to get it out. I was a bit of a pain in the ass compaired to my 84

The Cave has some info on it and I did what was recomended and replaced the 3rd gear switch. I also removed the fluid line and started the car to get all the fluid out.

Heys guys, thanks for the information. Maybe this won't be so difficult after all.

BTW, I could not get that link to work.

Does someone else have a different link?

Just finished, It took an hour and a half to do the job. I believe it's a bit easier in a 2.5 than the 2.8, less obstacles to the end cover. Unless you need to change filters there is no need to drain the tranny, I lost less than a pint. I had just recently changed mine.
