What engines can I use to rebuild for my '84 SE without rewiring everything from the dash back? What cars use the Iron Duke or some similar engine that's compatible?

Or is it really all that hard to put a six cylinder in an '84? If I could, what should i use?

The distributor version was used thru 1986 in a number of GM cars. Check Cutlas Calais/Ciera and grand am. You'll have to change all the pulleys and brackets but the rest is the same. It changes to the DIS motor for 87 models.

any decent scrap yard has an interchange book that tells you what years and cars that block was used in.

How 'bout the GM 3.0 liter industrial engine. They use em in Toyota and Hyster forklifts. I'm not sure if it would bolt up, but if it does it would be an easy way to get some cubes under the hood. They use the same ignition system as a Fiero, and the TBI could be adapted fairly easily. In a Toyota with a LP fuel system and 2500 RPM governed speed, it makes 90 hp. OK, it might not be an easy swap, but it sure would be unique!

I have a GM 3.0 Marine engine, we took it out of out boar and put a 5.7 in.... That 3.0 pushed our boar at 25 mph all day at 4,000 rpm (28 foot bayliner with a comand bridge)... but the bolt pattern is like the same as a Chevy SB... would not bolt right up but it would be a awsome racing engine (can hangle constant high speeds)
